I just wanted to share a little of our trip (re-live it) and maybe pass on some knowledge we gained during our week to the OBX. Read More...

Subject: Where to stay?
Hi all! I have never been to the Outer Banks before and we are going to be vacationing there this year during the third week in August. We are trying to decide on a house...I have no idea about the areas.. Any recommendations? What is the difference from all the locations, oceanfront, soundfront, between the roads? Does it really matter if you are not oceanfront? Thanks in advance for the help! Read More...

Subject: I've done a lot research...
I've never been to the Outer Banks but have done a lot of research trying to figure out where to stay. I'll think I've got it figured out and then read something on another site that makes it seem like I don't. I've read quite a few of the threads here and it sounds like this might be the place to get some first hand knowledgeable advice. Read More...

Subject: When to make reservation
OK, we are newbies to the OBX and we have narrowed down our search in terms of location and houses. Since we are not planning our trip until early June 2007, what do you think about early booking? Should we wait, hoping there is a deal on one of the six that we like... Thanks! Read More...

Subject: Corolla - too upscale?
My family (of four, two teenage daughters +dog) have vacationed in Nags Head/Kitty Hawk a couple of times about 10 years ago. This year we are staying in Corolla -- just to be different and possibly not be as crowded... Will we be having to go up and down the coast to go to resturants/shopping? and if so, how long does it take to travel from Corolla to Nags Head? Read More...

Subject: Visiting Corolla for the first time this summer
My family and I have rented a home in the Ocean Sands area of Corolla in August. We have vacationed in the past at Rehobeth Beach, DE and Ocean City, MD. I know there is no boardwalk, etc. But what can we expect? Are the beaches crowded? Is the water rough....I heard riptides are common? Are the alot of restaurants? Chain or local? Any info will be appreciated. Read More...

Subject: First Timers -- Lots of Questions!
I am taking my wife and 2 year old twins to the Outer Banks this summer -- our first time there. (It should be noted, we are also taking our dog, too!)

Here are my questions:
1. When is the best time of the summer to go?
2. Is Labor Day weekend going to be insanely crowded there?
3. Is it too hot in August and/or too cold in September/October to go?
4. Where is the best place to go for beauty and calmness -- we don't need a night life, and are looking for less crowds as much as possible. We have considered, so far, Nags Head and Duck -- are we on track?
5. Any other tips? Read More...

Subject: Advice on splitting costs?
We (4 couples including a 4 and 5 year old) are heading to the OBX (Avon) this year for the first time. We leave July 22nd and are terribly excited! Does anyone have any advice concerning sharing costs while we are there? Someone mentioned having each couple assigned one dinner during the week and they would be responsible for buying and preparing the food. The other 3 nights I was thinking we'd go out or steam some crabs and all pay our share. I am hung up on how to split the costs for the rest of the food, paper products, etc. Some of us like "special" food that no one else wants and therefore, should not pitch in on. Some of us DRINK A LOT OF BEER and some drink none and so on and so on. I am not a cheapskate, I have no problem splitting everything evenly between all parties but I don't think everyone else feels that way. Does anyone have any advice? Read More...

Subject: First timers to OBX
I know this may be early for us, but we'll be visiting OBX next summer. By reading brocures and internet, to me (and i may be wrong, as uaual), it seems that Nags Head seems to be the spot where most of the "action" is. Is this a good spot for people with families, kids ages range from 4 yrs old thru 12 yrs? Also, we were looking at homes on the ocean between MP 10 and MP 11. Is this a good location and are there any stores, restuarants and bars near by? Hope to hear soon and thanks in advance for your advice. Read More...
