Subject: Best Pizza

I've never been to the OBX, so this upcoming summer will be a first. Can anyone tell me who has the best pizza at the shore?

I love Stone Oven Pizza. They have 2 locations, one in Kitty Hawk and one in Nags Head. I've been going there for years. They have some great specialty pizzas as well as the usual favorites. You should try it.

Stone oven is like cheap cardboard with no sauce. The chains do the best job here, but they sure could use some better pizza places. Little Ceasar, Domino's and Pizza Hut do good jobs. Cosmo's in the Market Place is pretty good. Dare Devils and Pizzaz are not too bad.

I have tried them all in the Kitty Hawk to Nags Head area.

Pizza Pizazz on Rt 12 is pretty good. They offer a pizza buffet w/ an nice assortment of pizza's, some pasta dishes and a small salad bar. All this is included in the buffet.

The pizza place that is in the same shopping center as Try my nuts, in Hatteras has the best pizza for that area and they are pretty reasonable as well.

all of the above for mentioned are OKAY...but this pizza loving local loves a great little place called UPPER CRUST... they deliver in the kdh and prolly nags head area..they have great specialty pizzas... a little local secret??? when you call to order as for the Local HOT deals...always saves a buck or two :) Happy pizza hunting :)

I had a very good pie last night from Dominos and Little Cesar, Pizza Hut and Kill Devil's are all good. I have yet to try New York Pizza down at the 10 mile post but I hear it is good. You can do better than Pizzaz but avoid Stone Oven pizza, it's like cardboard.

Some of the best pizza is done at The Black Pelican resturant at Mile Post 4 on the beach road. They cook them in a wood fired oven and they are GREAT.

Stone Oven Pizza is very good when you order and get it right out of the oven. It isn't great when you buy it by the slice because it's been sitting there awhile. Come to think of it, no pizza is too good when it sits under lights for a long time.

Dare Devil Pizza on the Beach Road in KDH, hands down. The family makes it to OBX 3-4 times a year and every trip includes a meal at Dare Devil's.

Cosmo's in Southern Shores (and there's one farther north too) is one of the best NY style pizzas anywhere. I'm not sure if they are using whole milk mozz or not, but if you like cheese, they have the best in the business. If you're looking for excellent, traditional, take out pizza, you got to go with Cosmos. If you're looking for specialty pizzas, Tomato Patch is good. My family likes both the cheeseburger pizza and one their greek inspired pizza too. But, after two years away from OBX, what I'm craving is Cosmos.

the one in hatteras (Avon) is called Toppers. We thought it was great. Very good crust. Nice restaurant.

There is a new BEST pizzeria in KDH called SLICE Pizzeria.Not only is its pizza to die for, but the chef's other Italian dishes are wonderful. It is next to the Brew Station Rest.

We're from the NY Metro area and have been vacationing in VA and NC for many years. In our opinion, there is no good pizza anywhere south of Philly.....so eat your pizza at home (if your from the north) and eat something else at the Outer Banks, otherwise you will be VERY disappointed!

Harbor Point Grill in Nags Head by Out Back, Lucky 12 Tavern on the beach rd in Nags Head, Black Pelican for the specialties (chesapeake is the best, Slice is also good in KDH by the Brew Station ----- never never a chain pizza.

Garden deli and pizza in Manteo. Absolutely hands down the best. Thin crust, tons of flavor. New York pizza and Cosmos if you don't want to travel to Manteo. But it is worth the travel.

Cosmo's just N/E of Kitty Hawk, in Food Lion plaza, hooked me up when I showed up after having called the "wrong" Cosmo's half an hour earlier. Dismayed, I placed my order (pep, chix, bacon, saus, ban. pep) and went out to my car to wait and sulk. Went back in, took pizza home, and...sha-ZAM! Living between NY and PHI and having slung pizzas during college, I'm kind of picky. Though the crust could have been slightly thinner, it wasn't underdone even though we piled on 5 toppings. And all of them were great- pep was crispy, bacon was well cooked, sausage was too and was sliced, not loose and over-herbed (too much anise seed is a killer). I give Cosmo's 2 (greasy) thumbs up.
