I will be in Duck with family in late August but am not really into the beach all that much. I like hiking (beginner), bicycling (intermediate), kayaking (beginner), and canoeing (intermediate) but don't expect to do the water activities in the ocean. Are there parks and lakes in the area that rent boats? Do people kayak in the intercoastal waterway? Can you rent a decent bike around Duck?

You can kayak on the sound side - if it isn't too windy (choppy). There are rental companies that rent kayaks and bikes. There is a hiking trail at Jockey's ridge, probably elsewhere too.

There is a bike path that runs the length of Duck and down into Southern Shores and up partway to Corolla.

Curious about cycling during an extended weekend getaway...how long would the bike path be from Duck thru Southern Shores and up to Corolla...and, can some serious traing be had on this path?
