Subject: Duck Restaurants
As a Duck business owner, we receive daily reviews of Duck resturants. based onthis feedback, as well as personal experiences (tried them all!), her's a listing of Duck's restarants, good to bad:

1. Left Bank - outstanding, expensive, jackets requied. Not kid friendly.
2. Elizabeth's Cafe - Outstanding, emphasis on dinner built around wine.
3. Blue Point Grill - Used to be great, now a little tired - needs a menu makeover. Still a favorite.
4. Roadside Grill - Hit or miss. Live entertainment weekly on patio. Little pricey.
5. Fishbones - Average fare, no sandwiches available in the evening whcih would be welcomed by families.
6. Herron's Waterfront - Used to be Swan Cove, now owned by same owner as Herron's Family Restaurant. Great views, comedy club shows. Average food, pricey for the quality. Shame, could be a great place.
7. Sunset Grill - No restaurant generates the opinions like this one. Great views, service is poor. Quality average (sometimes below - cold!), long wait times.
8. Herrons Family Restaurant - Duck's greasy spoon. Average quality, but can accomodate larege groups.

That is it for now. Ther ar some very good restaurants in Corolla and Nags Head. Just ask the locals!

The Blue Point is overpriced and crowded. I don't like the place at all and going to Kitty Hawk would be a better choice.

I have been visiting for the past 4 years and I would say Red Sky is top of the list.

2 in Duck - Left Bank or Elizabeth's cafe (intimate). Knock his socks off. Blue Point is past its prime.

I don't think Jacket are required at Left Bank anymore.

The owner of Herron's died in his car in Southern Shores this past winter. His son does not want to take over the business. Don't know what will happen now.

A few days ago I had by far the most REVOLTING restaurant experience of all time at the Red Sky Cafe in Duck - and I've lived in some third world countries. More akin to a David Cronenberg film than a dining experience. Ordered the thai spring roll app. After nearly finishing, discovered LIVE (1-2 inch) COCKROACH resting under the ginger slaw. Startled, it started wiggle its legs and scamper about the plate. With my kids frozen in horror and disbelief, and the restaurant staff too freaked out to remove plate themselves - we took plate table off the table and handed to them. Have no idea why we stayed. Most amazing thing is that this resulted in total NON-RESPONSE from restaurant. No apology, no manager table visit, no offer to comp any items at all - not even the roach app itself which remained on the check when it came. Finally, we questioned this and they took off a few items and desserts. If any situation ever called for the entire check to be covered, this does. Appalling response, abolutely discusting food & service experience. Don't just avoid this restaurant - don't even venture within 5 miles of this place. REVOLTING IN EVERY RESPECT. I'm still having bad dreams about this one.
