Subject: Traffic from Kitty Hawk to Corolla
We are thinking about getting over the bridge on Sat. by 9:00 AM and going to Kitty Hawk for the day (to sight see and kill time until we can get into our house after 4:00 PM). How will the traffic be on 12 going north from Kitty Hawk to Corolla in the afternoon?

If I were you I'd go on up to Corolla and visit some of the shops/have lunch etc. That two lane road does back up pretty bad starting about 10 am. It's really not just the bridge you need to worry about, it's the actual road on up thru Sou. Shores, Duck and into Corolla.

Thank you both for your advice. I think we are going to just go to Corolla (the kids will want to at least drive by the house to see it) and then hang around that Timbuk shopping center, have lunch and maybe the house will be ready a little earlier than 4:00 PM. This board has such helpful posters - thanks again!

Make sure you check with your rental agency and let them know you are in town. Never hurts to see if the house is ready early.

We did the same thing, but with four kids it was a little nerve racking for five hours. We got lunch (pizza) at Cosmo's Pizza which was very good and then turn left out of the parking lot and there is a wildlife refuge with a dock and gazebo on the bay. Pathways to walk and there were people fishing and crabbing right there. There was a lot to do to keep the kids busy and there are bathrooms right there. My in-laws house was ready about 3pm, but ours not until 4pm. You can call and check on it which I do suggest.
