OKay, you've planned and saved and finally you arrived at the Beach. So when you wake up on your very first day, what do you do? Go fishing, walking, surfing...We typically, take a early morning walk, go back to the house for breakfast, take a bike ride, go fishing, get a nap, go down to the docks in Hatteras to see what the fishermen brought in that day, out to dinner (or cook in), another bike ride, fishing, bed. How about you?

First morning you will find me taking a walk along the beach at or near sunrise. There is nothing like it to begin to shake off the arrival celebration from the previous day. After that, it is usually a slow-paced day that includes beach time, some reading and maybe a nap. Later in the day, happy hour looms and the process starts all over again !!

First day? Always it's beach, beach and more beach.

BTW, you might consider fishing as your first activity since fish mostly bite at dawn and dusk.

Husband uses bloodworms, and gets it at any tackle shop on the island.

Hopefully wake up in time to have a cup of fresh ground coffee while watching the sun come up from the deck. Then a short walk on the beach then back to the house for breakfast. Crack my first beer by 9:00 am (because I can and I am on vacation)and back to the beach. Follow that up with a nap in the early afternoon then a late lunch. Back to the beach, then to Oregon Inlet for some fishing (if father-in-law is not drinking and will drive). Late dinner at the house followed be a "few" more beers.

I used to think that kind of attitude about drinking was just immature people who never grew past their college days of feeling like they have to drink to be cool - as if drinking equals fun. I've come to realize it's far sadder than that. It's most definitely alcoholism.

Watch the sunrise, have a cup o' joe and then a walk on the beach, dipping my toes along the way. I never feel closer to the circle of life, feel so small next to the ocean. I love it.

You people need to lighten up!! We're on vacation! There's nothing wrong w/a bloody mary in the am, margaritas in the afternoon by the pool after returning from the beach, and maybe a few drinks in the evening. No, we don't do this at home, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying yourself while on vacation. That's the idea -- read a book, go for a walk, swim, fish, take a nap -- you get to do what you want when you're on vacation. A couple of you sound like you could use a drink!

Perhaps drinking all day long makes you feel good. Some folks need that to get thru a day.......when I am at the Banx I feel good when my toes are in the sand, fishing, swimming, shelling, dining, being with my family and watching the sunrise and sunsets on the island. NOW THATS INTOXICATING!!!

38266 . . . do you ever drive a car while on vacation? If no, then you can drink all you want. If yes, then I will and should make a big deal of it!!! If you absolutely have to drink all the time to have fun, then stay off the roads so you're not risking someone else's life. Too many vacationers blow through traffic lights because they were hainv gtoo much fun with a bloody mary that morning and they weren't sharp enough to see the red light.

I must add to the "PLEASE LIGHTEN UP' chorus. I am by no means an alcoholic, but, I sure do enjoy a frosty beverage while on the beach in the OBX. It is the one time a year that I feel total and complete relaxation. No I don't drink and drive and no, I don't bother a soul. If you don't drink at all, I truly am happy for you. But please don't preach to those of us who sip on a beer or cocktail while on the beach. It's all part of the experience for me.

Whether you do or don't, let's all be thankful we have such a beautiful place to call home, or visit.

Geez, give the guy a break! he said a few beers for God's sake! I hardly call that drinking all day or an alcoholic.. it is vacation after all and a few beers are allowed. It not he is in s drunken stupor from sun up to sun down!

Drinking at 9 AM? C'mon. That's a bit much don't y'all think? I did that in high school and college. But I have a family now. I'm 40 years old. I'm a role model to my kids. I don't want them to think that the only way they can enjoy life is by drinking all day, especially on vacation. A few drinks in the afternoon and evening? Yeah, OK. Most of us do that probably. But ALL DAY? That's a problem any way you paint it.

No, I don't drink and drive and because I have a bloody mary in the late morning, 2 margaritas in the afternoon, and a couple of beers at night that does not an alcoholic make. You're 40 & have a family -- well good for you. I don't have any obligations and no one in our house gets falling down drunk. Some of you people are so judgemental, it's pathetic. Meanwhile you're probably the ones whose kids run around restaurants and shops screaming unsupervised & driving us to drink!

9 AM is a pretty late start when you consider the coincidence of there being an equal number of hours in a day to the number of bottles in a case. (Wait for it, wait for it...)

10:00 or 10:30 is more like it for our group. Nothing like an ice cold Carona to kick off a day at the beach. Lighten up, it's vacation time and family drama take a back seat.

To all you 'drinkers'....enjoy your day anyway you see fit, just remember to bring all those bottles and cans back off the beaches with you. Okay, thats my 2 cents. :)

I don't think you need to preach to the guy who has a beer at 9:00 AM. During high school week you should be concentrating on keeping an eye on the recent high school graduates who are ruining everyone else's vacation by drinking all night long and disturbing the entire neighborhood. Keep the noise down kids, I have heard that the OBX is a family spot.
