Subject: Who gets Master Bedroom?
How do you decide who gets the "good" bedroom? Any fun contest ideas? Any good "consolation prize" if you don't get it? Like maybe whoever "wins" the good bedroom hast to buy dinner or something?

Just looking for ideas from other "groups" that have traveled together.

I'd go lottery style after some drinks. Luck of the draw. I have seen some of the "best bedrooms" located in the worst places. I'd be looking for that bedroom furthest from the noise, private bathroom & a TV that works & sliding doors to a private deck no matter how small (queen bed can be OK). Best bedroom winner shouldn't have to pony up for dinner.

Heres how you decide who get the master bedroom. The oldest funest game around pin the sheets on the bed. Same as pin the tail on the donkey lol. try it draw a picture of a huge bed and have a tiny red circle on the bed and whoever lands on it gets the room.

We've always done it with whomever did the booking/planning/finding of the house gets the master master bedroom. It is only fair! From there on it's whomever wherever. We've never had an issue!

If someone is having a birthday, anniversary, or other special event is one way. Number all the bedrooms and pick numbers out of a bowl or hat.

We use the "planner/organizer" gets first pick. One year, a couple had a one year baby and we "gave" the big master bedroom to them. The bedroom had a small sitting room attached and they used that for the baby's crib. Seemed to work out for all of us.

We go with the same people each year. I have always found the house and made all the arrangements. We have never got the "good" bedroom. The other couple (in-laws) always rush in and scoop it up. (sigh) We are the meek ones I am afraid but we don't let it ruin our vacation. We just expect it and soilder on. (ha ha)

The person planning, finding the house, and sending in the deposit gets to pick first. After that first to send money first to choose a bedroom. Next to send money next to choose.

Great Responses - we've always gave it to whoever did the most planning/work, but I like sitting around with drinks and doing a lottery. We'll do that next time!

I agree it should go to those who find and book the place. Next is should go to special occaison person (b-day, anniversary).
BTW - some places have ALL master bedrooms, meaning they all have their own private bathroom. Croatan Surf Club is on the beach in KDH...it brand new, and every bedroom has its own bathroom....end of aruguement!

We usually look at who's going. I'm single so I don't care, just need a bed to sleep in and a bathroom to shower. Married couples were always first and then we just all seemed to agree. Like all the other comments also.

We shared the same house for 2 years in a row with the same family. We found the house and made all of the arrangements but we ended up with the "best" master suite (which was up on the 3rd floor by itself), but mainly because the other family had twin 3 year olds they wanted to be near. So, they took the largest bedroom on the 2nd floor, next to another bedroom which had bunk beds for their twins. The rest of the group (our 4 kids and their other 2 older kids), divied up the rest of the bedrooms which worked out fine.

I always let the eldest couple, usually my parents have pick of which room that they would like. Then we all choose after that. We call it respect

My parents always get first pick, senority, then I let my brother and his wife have the next best room. For some stupid reason because I am single I always get the worst room but I am rarely in it except at night so I keep my mouth shut and get over it. Sigh.

I am the person in charge of planning the actual vacation. I handle finding, booking & paying for our vacation rental and getting all info to everyone. My husband & I pay the majority of the cost of the rental, only asking his mother, brother and 2 sisters for $100 each (more to have them feel they are contributing than to actually help with costs). I find a house with at least one full size bedroom on the lower floor for my MIL. Hubby & I always arrive first and pick up the keys, and upon arrival at the house I choose the bedroom I want for the 2 of us, usually whichever one has the best waterfront view (which may or may not be the "master" bedroom). No one else in the group cares if they have the water view or not, so this always works for us.

We make the wives wrestle for it. A little baby oil, some bikinis and we get a winner.

Okay, so we don't. First come, first served, beginning with me always getting the master.

To 38106. I'm also single so sometimes I get slighted but like you I only sleep there so that's all I care about. Where in Ohio are you from? I'm in the Jackson Township/Canton/North Canton area.

Whoever was the key organizer for booking the house!

Everyone else should also cook, buy the beer, and carry their beach chairs for the entire week.

First order of consideration is that the adults / head of households get the Master suites. We are families with grown kids, some teenagers, mostly college age. One family does have smaller children - talking grade school. Like some others, the person who deals with the Realty company gets first choice of the Masters. The parents with the smaller kids usually take a Master on the same floor as the kids bedrooms. Teen age and college kids usually opt for the rooms by the game room/pool level.

Parents get first choice and always pickthe bedroom near kitchen and TV so there is no stairs involved for them.
Then whoever books the place (compensation for responsibility of signing the contract.)
I like the lottery idea (fairness and luck) and previous years if you go with the same people. I also like first payment received idea.

I think is should be the person that did all the legwork on finding the house, making the reservations, sending in the checks (making sure they collect their money from other couple(s)!). Unfortunately this is always me and it's a battle over the "best" room each year. Other couple just doesn't get it.

Definately the youngest couple with no kids....privacy and being as far away from the childrens rooms makes for a good vacation.
