Staying in Southern Shores. How long of a drive to Roanoke Island? Also, looking for good seafood. Any suggestions?

Good seafood is everywhere, it just depends what you want.

Roanoke island (aka Manteo) is 25 miles away and will take about 40 min or less depending on traffic and how many lights you hit.

I agree it is about 35 minutes or so to Roanoke island. I have a rainy day suggestion (although the weather will be great). It is the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. They also reciprocate if you are a member of a major zoo elsewhere in the country.

One more thing. You will pass a restaurant on the way to Manteo called Basnight's Lone Cedar. My wife and I think it is the best all-around on the OBX.

Barring hurricanes, September is the best month except maybe October. Fewer tourists and everything is open. Try Meridian 42 in Southern Shores Crossing for excellent seafood and other dishes. A really nice place.

Try Red Sky Cafe in Duck, too.

Enjoy your trip!

Nubacu ( http://www.nubacu.com ) Restaurant in Outer Banks Shopping Mall has great seafood, served in a tapas setting.

Go to GiGi's. It's in Corolla in the Visitor Center! It is a family-owned restaurant and homemade Italian food. They also have seafood! During the season, the chief does seafood specials! The family is amazingly nice and the service is great!

For great food and a quiet atmosphere Kelly's.

Or you can go to their lounge for a livelier pace.

Wonderful food found at Sugar Creek. You pass it on the way to Manteo. Wonderful cornbread and shrimp.
