YES, Sept and Oct are the ones when you do want it. It's good for more than just weather.

The weather is often a week of rain and a week of sun in Sept. The water is still warm. Oct is a bit more varied but walking on the beach is no problem and it is still very nice, but you can get a few days of rain. The storms don't sneak up on you but the insurance is good for peace of mind, you can just stay here with the locals.

We normally go in September and have purchased the insurance each time we go. Better to be safe than sorry.

Insurance is cheap compared to losing a day, or several, off your vacation should there be a storm. The insurance should cover any event that interupts your vacation: death of a family member, illness, etc. Well worth the cost.

Been going in September for the past 15 years and have been very lucky w/the weather. With that said, you have to consider who you're travelling with... we go with my parents, now 80 & 77. Twice we've had to cancel due to their health issues and got all $$$ back -- well worth the price of insurance!

We have gone in Sept for 17 years and used the insurance twice. I vote for yes, get the insurance! Going in Sept is worth it.

Tough call. You only get to use the insurance if there is a forced evacuation of your area. Understand that. If a storm washed everything out and makes the beach unusable, it pays you nothing. And typically, even with an evacuation, it only pays for the actual time in which the evac order is on. The days leading up to it and after it are not covered even if the beach is not nice.

I love September in the Outer Banks - my favorite time, but the insurance is definitely not an easy decision. In 10 years time at $100 a pop, I could pay for an entire week at the beach rather than eisk 1 or 2 days of compensation if/when a hurricane evac order comes. I've dogged a number of hurricanes over the years, but never in 20 years been forced off.

Mid September is a great time to come as far as the temperatures & the crowds thinning out. However, you are still in Hurricane season. Sure you will be tracking the weather before you come. Before purchasing cancellation insurance find out what it covers. I personally would want the coverage to include the health end in the event you or someone else became ill & had to leave or there was an emergency back home as well as a storm that would require you to evacuate. For the cost of $100 considering what you have invested & I slept better at night I would purchase it.

You will be visiting in the height of hurricane season. Better safe than sorry. Here is a link to information about the travel insurance that Seaside Vacations offers their guests.

We go in Sept always. 4 yrs out of 6 we just missed either a hurricane or tropical storm by a day or two either way. Never got trip insurance, but we're considering it, because we've come almost too close for comfort. Amazing how calm it is just after a storm though, but just before it can get interesting!

You should really always buy the insurance no matter what time of the year you come. You can never tell what might come up. But, as for the weather in September, it's absolutely beautiful. The water is warm, the temnperatures are warm and the kids are back in school. My husband and I love the beach in September and October!

Isabel made landfall here as a Category Two hurricane on September 18, 2003. A day or two before making landfall she was Category Five with winds of 160mph.
Please buy the insurance. As others have stated, it covers lots more than mandatory hurricane evacuations.
