Yes, you will seldom if ever find anyone who states that they tried the Outer Banks and didn't like it. Some of our families best moments have come up and down the Outer Banks. Hope y'all enjoy yourselves.

I think you'll find you'll have a wonderful time. Its certainly a nice family place to go. Try the Nags Head area.

there are some people who do not enjoy OBX. MTV does not come to OBX to record the wild parties. No large group gatherings at the beach you know safety in numbers, more than ten open feet between beach blankets and some people get nervous.
But me I'm just another one of those odd people that just love coming to the OBX!!!

The only reason you wouldn't like the Outer Banks is ...if you did like Myrtle Beach. If you're looking for lots of action, lots and lots to do you'll probably hate it. If you love nature, relaxing and the most awesome beach in the world...you'll love it and will never go back to Myrtle Beach.

OP...If you want to stay in the Corolla area (northern beaches of the Outer Banks) Twiddy and Brindley Beach Vacations have provided excellent service over the years. Don't know about Corolla Classics since I have never used them. Here is some info on Corolla. You can be as busy as you want. Grocery shopping is convenient in Corolla (Food Lion and Harris Teeter) and there are a number of shops and restaurants located in Tim Buck II Shopping Village just across from the Food Lion complex. Go to the top of the page. Type in 'Tim Buck II' in the search window. Should find good info regarding the shops, etc at Tim Buck II. Just a little north of the Food Lion complex (shops and restaurants as well in that complex)is the Corolla Light Village Shops. More shopping and restaurants. You can watch the sunrise on the beach in the morning and the sunsets over the sound in the evening. The Corolla Lighthouse, the Whalehead Club, the Wildlife Education Center(history of the Sound..very nice) are great. If you think you would enjoy a kayak tour of the Sound sign up early in the week at the Wildlife Education Center. Check out NC Bar-b-que just north of the Corolla lighthouse (Currituck Lighthouse is the official name). Rent a Jeep and drive the 4x4 beach. Maybe see some horses. Or book a spot for a paid tour of the four wheel drive area. Don't know what you are into but you can rent jet skis on the Sound, fly huge kites on the beach, go parasailing over the Sound, boogie boarding, golf is nearby, fishing, crabbing, volley ball on the beach, bike riding, putt-putt,etc. We like the Dockside Seafood Market in the Food Lion complex for fresh sea food. Below is the Corolla Village website. Provides a brief history, list of restaurants, shops, etc. Duck is south of Corolla...nice village with more nice shops/restaurants. And if you want to see other area attractions you can drive south to the other lighthouses, Jockey Ridge, Wright Bros Memorial, etc. Hatteras is approximately 70 miles or so south of Corolla. From Hatteras you can take the ferry to Okracoke Island. Nice day trip. At the top and bottom of this page you will find "WHERE TO EAT","WHAT TO DO", "PLAN YOUR TRIP", "OBX TOWNS" (maps). On the left of this page are a number of popular topics (FAQs). Helpful info. I should add the communities south of Corolla are nice. The further south you go (Rodanthe, Waves, Avon, Hatteras, Okracoke) the less congestion. But fewer shops and restaurants. Below is the Corolla website. Hope this helps. Should add...favorite things to do is go to the beach, read a book on the beach, doze a little on the beach, walk along the beach, boogie board. All interspersed with a Corona or two. Hope this helps.

we would like to try obx, but have no clue where to stay, we've stayed at n. myrtle beach-cherry grove for 20 years. we love the fishing off the pier. not into crowds, but do like to shop and eat, but we've heard so much about obx that we really want to go plan on it at end of may.

Anyway I agree if you're in love with the Myrtle and the activities it has to offer than OBX may be a little too slow paced for you. OBX gives a nice relaxing family friendly atmosphere that brings us back year after year.

How crowded does it get there around 4th of July weekend? I assume that would be one of the busiest weekends of the year? Is it a madhouse?
