Subject: weather in october
Hi all! My daughter and I would like to come to the OBX in late Octber....is it still relatively warm then? We HATE the heat and the crowds and were hoping for less of both at that time of year. What do you say?

Oct is a month where it can rain all week or be great all week. It is totally unpredictable. Many people wait until a week out to decide to come or not and watch the weather. Normally the water is starting to get cooler but the winds are still nice and warm.

Last year in mid Oct we were there for a week. The first 2 days were in the high 70's water was perfect. Then a Noeaster hit. We had 5 days of wind and rain and oh the surf was rough. But it was great and I found some big Whelk shells. I Love Oct at the beach

try and make it the first two weeks of October - warm days, cool nights, no crowds and the water is still in the 70's. My favorite two weeks of the year.

I was in KDH early last October for a long weekend. The weather was wonderful... nice enough to sit out on the beach and enjoy the surf. A big plus is the rental rates have dropped significantly.
There are some things that are not available- for example, the outdoor pool where we were staying was closed for the season and some of the restaurants we wanted to try we also already closed. However, there were lots of good ones still open.

Great time to come, but I wold buy the insurance. That time of year, and given this year's downturn, you could probably wait until you've seen the 10 day forecast before reserving.
Don't know what sort of accommodations you are looking for, or where, but here are some to consider.

I think it depends on whether you're coming EARLY Oct or late october...temp. wise it will probably make a big difference.
