What should I expect after years of coming only in Sept, now going to try June?

The first few weeks are June are not too busy but once the kids get out of school, it's very busy. Water temperatures are not as warm in June as they are in September.

Actually, we found June to be quite nice. We went in early-mid June for years when our kids school schedules allowed. Definately less crowded than late June - August. We had many years of super weather too. If we could, would still go in June, so, that should tell you something.

We always go the second week in June and the first week of September. As far as the crowd, it's about the same. The weather is usually nice in June, but it sometimes can get a little cool in the evenings. The ocean is alot cooler, but anytime is great for the OBX!! Have a great time!!

September is much better. Trust me, tried June once and was disappointed after coming end of August/beginning of september for many years. then again, it's getting in the ocean for me.

We had to shift from Sept to June once the kids were in school years ago. I miss the water temps and the less crowds, but not the constant looking at for hurricanes.

Mid-June is nice though. We've never had June week that was washed out or couldn't swim in the water. Water temps are always cooler, but acceptable for me and my family - though many temp sensitive types find it chilly. A major benefit is that as one of the early vacationers for the year, the homes are clean and fresh from the winter work the owners put in.

June will not be crowded but the water temperatures will be iffy. Although you called June "in season" --it isn't . The season doesn't really begin until early July.

Its funny you say that. We have only been to OBX in May, September, and once over the Christmas holidays. I'm not sure I would like it peak season. Just how crowded does it get?

try staying further south on Hatteras Island. The beaches - even on 4th of July - are very quiet. Its not overbuilt like north of Oregon Inlet.
