Subject: oct vs nov
Just got back from a great vacation in Duck, so much that we were thinking of going back for another week in October or November. Just wanted to know the difference in weather and temperature between October to November.

Thanks and hope you all enjoy your vacation as much as we did!

Nov starts getting to the point where you have to dress well to be walking the beach and you'll avoid the water because it is cold. There can always be the 70° day as well, so you have to bring some of everything in November. Oct is still pretty nice to be on the beaches for the first week or two but you won't be in the water too much as it starts getting colder in the later part of Oct. Your best bet would be early October. The hurricane threat really drops off in Oct as the waters start cooling.

November will be cooler, but probably not awful. It varies, we've had Thanksgiving days in the 70s and been kayaking, and we've had them with a long, cold nor'easter.
Oct. is probasbly better, but if it's Duck, avoid the Columbus Day weekend because that is owner's weekend and all the neighborhoods have their annual meetings and a bunch of owners from away are in town.

Some of the restaurants close the end of Oct until spring. We've gone the first few weeks of Oct and have had great weather.

I've stayed in Duck during the second week of October in 2003 and 2004 and the weather is delightful. Highs in lower 70's and the water temperature that week is 70 degrees.

try and make it the first two weeks of October - warm days, cool nights, no crowds and the water is still in the 70's. My favorite two weeks of the year.

we went for a week 2007 Nov for Thanksgiving; temperture ranged 60-70 EVERYDAY! We had the time of our lives. We love the beach and not necessary getting in the water. We enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub! If you love spending time with your family members...this is the place to be! Already booked for 2009 Thanksgiving!
