We went in late Sept last year, it was warm but not hot, a little more windy and cooler in the evenings but still very comfortable. We had gone in late June of last year also, it was very hot and humid and we spent more time on the beach in June than Sept.We are going again the middle of Oct this year. It's a little more relaxing and not so crowded. We enjoyed it.

My husband and I vacation there in September, in fact, we leave Sept. 3rd for our trip this year. The weather is normally in the 80's during the day and night time is really nice. Last year we went in August and it was a little more crowded than we are used to, so this year we will return when it is not so bad. I think you will enjoy it at that time of year.

We have been vacationing at the OBX for 20 years and fall is our favorite time to be there. The days are warm enough for shorts and even swimsuits, but cool enough at night to throw on a light jacket or sweater. The crowds of summer are gone, so no lines of traffic to be in, you get seated quickly at the restaurants. It's just the best time of year to be there.

As a resident of the Outer Banks, my favorite time of year is September and October. The weather is great, the ocean water is warm, and the nights are cool. The only drawback is hurricane season. September seems to be the most active month for hurricanes around here, so make sure you purchase trip insurance if you plan to visit that time of year.

The rates don't drop because of weather .... it's because schools are back in session. The Outer Banks are primarily a family destination with many-bedroomed cottages.

Sept is my favorite time. The weather's hot but not brutally so, it's less crowded everywhere. You'll see more couples and families with kids below school-age down here, taking advantage of the lower rates and still-good weather.

The surfing's usually better in fall than summer. Winter can be great, but I'm not crazy about wetsuits and cold water.

Sept. is a great time to discover the 4X4 area of Corolla. You can take a ride on the beach all the way to the VA border and you can get even better deals there. If you would like to see some pictures go to www.geocities.com/dmjrothrock

What is the history of hurricanes in OBX in Sept. for, say, the last 3-4 years? Anyone have some idea? We'd like to know about the need for insurance when we visit in early Sept.

I have found the weather to be spectacular in september. There is always a chance for a hurricane. We have had one hurricane in the last 4 Septembers we went to Duck. The whole week wasn't ruined. i would suggest travel insurance so that if there is a mandatory evacuation you can get your money back. i would say september is worth the risk!

Weather in OBX is great in September and October. The water is warm and usually, especially in Sept., the weather is too. You do have hurricanes to worry about - this is the most active time of year. Get travel insurance. Home prices drop because school is back in session.

We have went the last week in Sept. the last 3-4 years and the wheater was wonderful. Great for the kids because its not too hot for them to play in the sand and teh water is warm enough you can still get in. The temperature outside was great too.

I have gone to the outer banks for the last 14 years and have always gone in Sept and early Oct. The weather is great, less people, and cheaper rates on the
houses. Shopping is great for the
discounts for Christmas presents.

Weather is gorgeous as long as there are no tropical events. September is still pretty warm - still like summer. The prices go down on rentals because it's their off season which is a great advantage from those of us who come from out of state.

I'm an owner of a beach house down there, and we've always preferred mid-september to early Oct. The air isn't as hot, and the water is still warm. Although by Maryland beach standards it is never crowded, it is almost deserted in the fall as soon as the kids are back in school. And the NC schools go back in session in mid-August. Have a great time!

We are looking very forward to our trip to OBX on Sept. 5. We are staying for 2 weeks bar a hurricane. We chose that time of year because we do not have children and although we love kids, we just did not want to deal with being over run by them. My husband has never been!!! As a matter of fact he has never seen the Atlantic Ocean!! Wow, is he in for a treat - I do hope that we have at least one really good thunderstorm because we LOVE the thrill. As for a hurricane - get hurricane insurance folks. If you don't you are foolish due to rental laws in NC.
