Subject: Fishing question
Can someone tell me what bites and what bait/lures to get for some pier fishing? I assume since I will be in Duck, we will be fishing on Duck Pier. Correct? Thanks!

Not on Duck Pier--it belongs to the Corps of Army engineers and is private. You have a number of other choices, all south of Duck. You won't need a license and can rent rods and lures and buy bait at the pier.
Here is a link to the piers:

Have fun.

Here is some information on Duck Pier. It's quite a facility, and offers very popular public tours in the summer.

You may want to check into the license issue. I think as of 1/07 you need to purchase one. You can purchase a 10 day license at most bait and tackle shops. TW's sold me mine in August.

You do need a license if you are fishing from the surf or a private boat but most charters and piers have a blanket license so none is needed but you can get a 10 day license for $10.00
Here is a page to look at as far as being a newcomer to salt water fishing it should answer most of your questions on fishing

use some gulp berkley if you wanna catch flounder or get live shrimp from the area under big bridge across from Pirates Cove. Also get some sand fleas if you wanna do some Spades. Was down last week and did really well with all that bait. Have fun and good luck fishing. ohh and dont forget the licencse

We stay in Duck every year and have always been told the closest pier was Avalon. I think there used to be another pier closer but was damaged by a storm some years ago. I'd love to find someplace closer, other than surf fishing so I'll check out the link as well. As far as bait, we had real good luck with the new artificial bloodworm sold at Avalon pier. I'm sure you can get it anywhere down there. It worked better than squid & shrimp, All we caught on that were those ugly skates!
