Subject: What to do while waitign to check in?

We are coming to Duck next week, wondering what to do while waiting to check in at 4pm? We will probably get there around 1:00.

If this is your first trip, I would recommend driving down towards Kitty Hawk, and pay attention to things along the way that you may want to do over the course of your visit (make a note of restaurants, shops, tourist attractions that you see).

Around 3:15, I would go ahead and do my grocery shopping, and get that out of the way. If you are checking in on a Saturday or Sunday, the grocery stores are often nuts around dinner time and evenings, as these are 2 popular days for checking in to rentals and time shares.

Stretch your legs and take a walk on the beach. Go to a pier, hang out for a while, take in the view, saltwater air. Enjoy some "island time"!

You might want to check with the realty company and let them know you're there. Sometimes your place will be ready. We have been lucky enough to have that happen a few times before. We usually go get lunch and then do our grocery shopping. Enjoy your trip!

This year we used Stan White for our rental company and we were able to pick up our key early, 2pm instead of waiting until 4pm some times the lines at 4pm ar awlful. You might want to go to the grocery store, the later in the day you go the more hectic that can be. Check the grocery stores in Maneto, sometimes they are less crowded and run some great sales.(tip; if any grocery store offers a discount card-get it , you will save bundles of cash) and there is also have a Dollar General if you need to do some bargin shopping. Then go to the visitors center see what is available in the area check out the parks service magazine it has some great stuff in it.

I arrived in Duck this past Sunday at around 1:15 pm. I immediately called the rental agency who told me to call back around 3ish. We drove around Duck to familiarize ourselves with the area and had lunch at Baldies Burgers. We were able to get into our rental at 3:00.

If you arrive in Duck for a 4pm check in in Duck hanf around Duck, go to the Waterfront shops and some other shops, have lunch. If you feel you must drive somewhere head north to Corolla; coming back will be easy b/c Saturdy leavers will be gone and the traffic will be heading north. Don't drive south to the visitors center or Manteo or wherever because coming back north to Duck you'll be in the heave traffic you avoided by arriving at 1 pm.
