Subject: Family Trip to Kill Devil Hills - suggestions
We are taking a multi-generational trip in mid-June and staying at a house in Kill Devil Hills. Since this is the first trip for our large family gathering, I'm looking for suggestions of things to do.

We will be travelling with kids from age 1-15, young couples and older couples. Suggestions of family friendly entertainment, adult evening outs, local sites and tours to do. Willing to drive to places.

Good webistes I can search this info.? I've been getting all kinds of mailings and searching on the web, but not finding exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks so much for your help :-)

There's a lot to offer, I am sure others can add to the list but here's a few.

Jockey's ridge - largest sand dune on the East Coast, go at sunset
Aquariam - Manteo good for kids on a rainy day
Lighthouses - up and down from KDH
4x4 area - if you can its fun to stop, fish, drive or look for horses
Fishing trip
Beaches,
Putt Putt, Regular golf, movies, shopping, crabbing, to name a few
Enjoy!

hey, have you looked through the past couple of threads on this board, there has been many questions about kill devil hills recently. it will be around the regional beach access and new ocean rescue station, so expect the beach to have a good number of people, but its also a good spot with several restraunts on the beach road around the same area. it seems the biggest problem for kids is stuff to do at night, there is a putt-putt place as well as a go-kart place a short drive south in nags head. there is a bike rental place in the general area you are staying, as well as a conveince store with a deli

do things that you wouldn't do at home. walk out on the pier. go to the top of jockeye's ridge at sunset. same with eating out. go to the local fare and stay away from the chains. check out the sunny day guide it gives lots of info on things to do and see will also have a map. you will never see it all in one trip so enjoy relax and go with the flow.

Great, thanks for the ideas - keep em coming :-)

We are going around June 16th. We have considered a 4x4 jeep trip also. I saw a link to a family amusement place - is there one?

We will have a house full and would rather plan ahead a little (not to a specific schedule) rather than looking at each other taking 1/2 a day to figure out what to do. I'm sure we will be entertained enough at the house, but would like to see the area also.

Thanks again!!

just to let you know, it is probable the ocean is going to be sorta cold to be swimming, or at least for a longer period of time around that time in june. the house you are getting, does it have a ymca agreement. u can take the kids to the pool at least if the water is too rough/cold

You will be in a good location, close to everything. Near the Food Lion, fast food, jockeys ridge 6 miles or so down, first flight 1 mile north, easy access to alot.

Don't miss Jockey's Ridge. The kids will love all the sand, and the adults will love the view from the top. Take your camera for sure!

It's well worth the drive to go to Ocracoke. Be prepared that time of year for a long wait at the ferry, though. On Ocracoke, eat breakfast at the Pony Island Restaurant, stroll down quaint Howard Street and visit the Village Craftsman shop, and enjoy the amazing beach.
Stop by the Community Store on Hwy. 12 for postcards, etc. Ocracoke is wonderful!
