Subject: Dog Friendly Rentals
Does anyone know of a rental agency that will allow more than two dogs? My husband and I have two dogs and we will be vacationing with my inlaws and they have two dogs. All the dogs are mature show dogs and will be crated when we are not at the cottage/house. Many of the agencies state in their contract that only two mature dogs are permitted. We don't want to rent two properties nor do we want to leave them behind. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

do a search through the postings. someone did a similar post and got a few replies from actual owners who had houses to offer. it was within the last 3 months.

Stop websearching and pick up the phone and call and ask to speak to the rental mgr or the assistant and explain your position. There are always some owners who will allow it but there might be an extra security deposit required which should not bother you. Don't just speak to whomever answers the phone because they may have started working there last month and may never have had the questionm come up before and they will just say "no". So ask to speak to someone who has more ability to help you.

You didn't mention the types of dogs which could matter.

Thanks, I will give the agencies a call and will search other posts. The dogs are boxers so they are lovable clowns!! They are used to traveling and being crated since they have been on the road at dog shows frequently, so they don't make noises in strange places when they are in their crates. Thanks a bunch. Any suggestions for the best rental agency?

I never knew that there were limits. I own a home in Corolla and have seen many dogs at the rental homes in the neighborhood. I guess people don't ask just bring them. In fact more owners would allow dogs if the owners were more considerate. Clean up after your dog(s), keep them out of the pool and hot tubs. Crate them or put them in the garage when leaving them in a strange home so, they don't chew up the furniture and scratch the doors etc. I know you are on vacation but take care of your pets and children don't let them get hurt or damage others property. I will get off my soapbox.

Thanks from an owner who does not rent anymore.

I am sorry you had bad experiences renting your house. Don't assume all people who own dogs are inconsiderate. We probably take better care of our dogs than we do ourselves. It angers me when I see people who have a dog and don't pick up after it or let if off of a leash. Dogs are dogs and I don't care how good you think your dog is, they still have the ability to start a dog fight with one that is leashed or scare someone (like a child). I usually will give people a baggy if they haven't cleaned up their mess! Our dogs are used to traveling since they are show dogs and I would never consider leaving them loose unattended. Maybe we are the exception but believe it or not there are responsible dog owners out there! We just suffer because of all the irresponsible people out there - it really is a shame! We are responsible dog owners who are looking for a property that will allow more than two!!

Amen, 10045! I agree.

*Alsom to those who don't pick up-- covering the poo with sand doesn't count as picking it up, LOL*

We own a home in Duck and have always allowed extra dogs when asked by the prospective renters. We own a dog and figure if someone is willing to ask, then they are responsible pet owners. If you're interested, you can check out our cottage at Stan White Realty - Property Number SA-118. I don't know if it's the size and location you're looking for, but thought I'd give you an owner's perspective.

Sorry for the delay in responding. It's about 400 yards from the beach and is located on a road with direct beach access. It sits about half-way down the road and is a 5 minute walk to the beach or to Hwy 12. Let me know if you have any other questions. I suggest calling the Duck office at 1-800-992-2976. Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy your visit to the Outerbanks!!

I am looking for a dog friendly home or hotel in Outerbanks, NC that will allow 4 medium size dogs. I have 4 well behaved English Springer Spaniels that I would not think about leaving at home. My husband and I bought a camper 3 years ago so we could take weekends, sometimes extended ones, with our 4 legged children. We treat them better than a lot of people treat their kids. Any help would be appreciated. animalloverx3@msn.com

It is a shame when ppl (with or without pets) don't respect rental property, they make things difficult for the ppl who are responsible. My wife and our two "k-9 kids" will be heading down to Waves on 8/9. We will abide by the leash laws, have our blue clean up bags and the boys will be crated when we are about.
I have to say I'm a bit concerned about what I've read regarding fleas and ticks. Our boys get Frontline and Interceptor, so I hope that will be enough defense.
