Subject: trip insurance
What is the prevailing average rate for trip cancellation insurance? It seems that many of the rental companies do not want to post the prices on their websites. Thanks.

TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE
Trip Insurance is available to cover hurricane evacuations, family emergencies such as illness or death in the family. We strongly urge you to purchase this insurance when considering your Outer Banks vacation. NO REFUNDS WILL BE MADE FOR HURRICANE EVACUATIONS WITHOUT TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE. Trip insurance cost: the cost is 6.5% and this amount is indicated on your lease. If you do not wish to purchase the trip insurance you must initial to decline coverage on your lease; this is clearly designated on the front page. This fee is due with your first payment and is non-refundable. The total on your lease will include the trip insurance in most cases so please review carefully. Trip insurance may not be purchased after your reservation is paid in full. If you are making a last minute reservation (within 30 days of arrival) and there is a named storm in the Atlantic Ocean, Trip Insurance is not available. Please call our office if you are unsure of this policy or have any questions. More information is available at www.csatravelprotection.com.

This is what is on the website for Village Realty in Nags Head. http://www.villagerealtyobx.com/rentals_about.html

If you go to their site and look at a home/rate, the rent includes everything but taxes and trip insurance so you can add 6.5% on top of that and this would be your total.

Trip insurance is well worth the price. I have elderly parents and twice within the past 5 yrs. have had to cancel due to their healh problems. No problem filing the necessary paperwork and got every penny back. Would never travel w/out it!

GSA is the company most rental management companies use on the east coast for trip insurance. They make a bundle because they are so big everyone uses them.
