Subject: Lighthouses...
I plan to do some sightseeing while I'm in the Outer Banks this summer, can I see the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Bodie, and Currituck lighthouse in 1 day? Or is that unrealistic. I plan to do it on a weekday in July - if that helps.

You can definitely do Hatteras and Bodie Island on the same day, in my opinion. Be sure to get to Hatteras early, though, because the line is long, and the lighthouse is closed if it gets too hot. Bodie you cannot go inside, but there is a interesting museum there. From Cape Hatteras to Currituck is about a two hour drive. Currituck will also have a long line. I'd suggest saving it for another day.

Its feasible but consider you will be on the road most of the day Currituck and Hatteras are the only ones you can climb if you want and expect a line on each. You will probably be driving at least 140 mile round trip depending on where you start from.

Personally I would do Bodie and Hatteras in one day and Currituck in another , also depending again on where you are staying.

Currituck's lines do get long in the summer. On the plus side, there is a nice giftshop and the Whalehead Club (a restored hunt club) and the new wildlife museum are both next door. So is a long boardwalk trail out into the sound. Save Currituck for a separate day.

We did four in one day. We started at Currituck, stopped at Bodie, then on to Hatteras, hopped the ferry to Ocracoke Island and visited the Ocracoke Lighthouse. And yes it was a long day, a very long day.

We also did all four lighthouses in a day. We were staying in KDH and went first to Currituck and then made our way back down. By the time we got to Hatteras it was closed for climbing and by the time we got to the ferry to Ocracoke it was getting dark. So we had to get out the flashlight to find our way to the lighthouse. I would recommend starting early if you want to be able to see them all. But its definitely well worth the drive!

You people who did all of them in one day must be hard core. Im local and would die if i tried so, especially with traffic. Id say try Cape and Bodie in one day. Then the other two another.

You can easily see Bodie, Hatteras and Ocrakoke in a day. It's about an hour's drive and a 45minute free ferry ride between Bodie and Ocracoke. I've not been to Currituck.
