Subject: Beach Quality
Give me an idea where to find the best beach quality (ie. not rocky and good for the kids)

No rocks unless you go down towards the inlet and there is no beach then. A good kids beach is the Haul Over area below Avon it is on the sound side, no waves little currant but some of the bottom is clay like not all sandy but no dangerous rocks .

The ocean beaches change as the weather so you never know it could be slick calm one day and 6 ft waves the next and that will be just about any where on the Outer Banks,

Anywhere along the OBX is great. For peace in the middle of summer, well, you will have to get a 4x4 and find a secret spot. But as for the beaches being nice, they all are.

Whalehead Beach is delightful....broad and fine (light tan colored) sand beach, gentle waves with lots of shallow stretches, rivlets & tidal pools formed by previous winter nor'easters, and almost never over crowded. Also, fun to stroll along just to see the day's latest cute and often very creative sand castles that kids generate in abundance here.

Each time I search beach info, I become more confused. Our lodging is at Buxton. This is our first trip to OBX and are excited to see something besides Hilton Head Island. We don't want to drive too far with our 2 1/2 yr old, so how about something considered "safe" and of course he will be closely supervised and mainly playing in the sand and tide pools. I respect and appreciate all your help 'cause our trip is coming soon! Can't wait. Oh, someone suggested Candian Hole if not so busy w/wind surfers??

I am planning a visit to OBX soon and am looking for a clean, quiet sandy beach. Any suggestions are welcomed & appreciated!
