Subject: Oceanfront Restaurant
Hello...We are coming up to the OBX for a week tomorrow and was wondering if there are any nice oceanfront restarants? I know most of the ocean side is residential and that water view restaurants are on the sound side...any ideas?

There are nunmber of restaurants along NC 12, the Beach Road heading south from Kitty Hawk. If you want to be right on the water you'll be disappointed. A fair number of them can't see over the dunes. Look at Ocean Blvd and Meridian 42, or the Black Pelican or Awful Arthurs.

If you want a great sunset view, try Fishbones Sunset bar and grill in Duck.

We had dinner tonight at the Black Peilcan--no view of the water unless you go upstairs to the bar--there's no outside dining. You have a great view of the dune from inside, though, if you like sand. The food was great and I recommend the baked crab & shrimp highly. You can see the water from the upstairs of Awful Arthurs(also across the street from the beach) but it is a bar and full of smokers, so if you object to second hand smoke you will have a hard time there. There is one oceanfront resturant in a large hotel (I saw it mentioned in a resturant guide online) and a resturant at the Nags Head Pier which serves a good breakfast and lunch (if you catch fish at the pier, they will clean and cook it along with all the fixings for around $10). I've learned that if you want a great water view, the sound side is your best bet, and you do have the added bonus of great sunsets! I hope you have a great time wherever you end up.

I find it strange there are none on the ocean beach. Could it be property costs are high or perhaps an ordinace against it????

A restaurant could never be profitable in an oceanfront location. Property costs too high, taxes too high, etc.
