Subject: Dog friendly rentals?
Help! I am looking for oceanfront lodging for 3 people and 2 dogs. I have also read that Duck is the only beach where dogs are allowed offleash. If that is the case, then I am looking for a place in Duck.

We are interested in coming in July. Either the first, second, or third week.

One of the advertisers on this site has pet friendly homes in south Nags Head. On their website they state that dogs are allowed on Nags Head beaches all year. See:

not true about Duck. Ordinance requires dogs be on leashes not to exceed 10 feet in length. also county license and rabies tags must be worn. owners must pick up their dogs feces, and this doesn't mean covering them with sand.

In the Outer Banks Pampered Pets Guide, www.pamperedpetsguide.com, Southern Shores Realty, www.southernshores.com advertises that it has over 150 dog friendly properties available, and Kitty Dunes Realty, www.kittydunes.com advertises over 80 pet homes available.
Read the property rules carefully. Often a renter is limited to one dog of not more than 20 pounds. Too bad for your labs!

Although Southern Shores advertises many dog-friendly homes, dogs are not permitted on the beach from May 15th to September 15th, leashed or unleashed. This is a Southern Shores town ordinance. This ordinance also applies in Kitty Hawk (no pets during the "summer months") and in Kill Devil Hills. Leashed dogs are permitted on the beach year-round in Duck, Corolla, and Nags Head.

Try Cola Vaughn Realty. We rented from them back in 2001 with 2 large dogs. Smaller operation, but very good. I was concerned that since the house was pet friendly, it would be flea infested. In fact, it was very clean. If we ever take the dogs back, we would consider them again. If you stay in Nags Head, there is a nice soundside beach/ park/ nature trail on the backside of Jockeys Ridge. Our dogs loved it because the sound is so calm. I think that all the beaches have leash laws, some prohibit dogs altogether at certain times. Good luck and enjoy.
