Subject: Supplies...recent posts got me thinking
We are planning on basically just bringing clothes and getting anything and everything else we need once we arrive.

We are staying in Corolla. Someone earlier mentioned stopping before the bridge to buy their perishables. We were planning to buy all of our groceries once we got to Corolla. Is this a good idea or a bad one?

Aside from groceries, we had also planned on just buying beachy things for our boys there.

All you veterans...help...do we need to bring anything besides our clothes? Our house is very well-equipped.

Thanks!
Shari

Buy the food in Corolla. You now have two very large competing grocery stores to choose from. No need to buy before then.

The only think we bring besides our clothes is one roll of toilet paper! There is never any in the house and we check in ,get settled and then go shopping !! You can get cheap toys and such at Wings or there is a walmart at the intersection where you will be turning left onto Rt 12.( about 1/2 hour before reaching Corolla.

Thanks Everyone!

Between 2 boys, 1 dog and my husband and I...not sure there'll be room for much more.

Great tips about the spices and the TP! Those I'll definitely throw in.

You can buy everything you need once you get there, but we will bring with us:

laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, sponges, handsoap dispensers for every bathroom and kitchen/sink area, TP(!), ziploc bags, plastic wrap/alum. foil.

We put it all in a Rubbermaid tote and then bring home whatever is leftover.

I AGREE WITH PURCHASING THE FOOD IN COROLLA. THE FOOD LION IS REASONABLE AND I HEARD HARRIS TEETER IS GOOD FOR DIFFERENT ITEMS. WE ALSO BRING A TUB WITH TP,P.TOWELS,DISH SOAP,LAUND DET.SPICES, TRASH BAGS,FOIL AND SARAN WRAP. GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY...

Don't forget to take flashlights, batteries, some trash bags, food baggies and foil. I hate having to buy that stuff on vacation. I've had a "Hatteras Box" for years and I never unpack it. Things like coffee filters, small sizes of dish soap, laundry detergent, matches, handiwipes, paper plates, towels, etc. Or whatever you want. Food Lion and Harris Teeter prices are comprable to what you pay at home.

Hope you have a great vacation.

I would suggest bringing anything you want to eat for the 1st 2 days there. The grocery stores are nightmarish on Saturday and Sunday due to everyone checking in. If you are going during prime season this is a must! Just trying to save you some time and your sanity! Don't forget dishtowels, papertowels, soap, toilet paper, and things like that. Most houses have tupperware items to store leftovers temporarily.

If you have the room (i.e. - large car or trailer) then by all means bring what you can. If not, you can buy it here and it's not too awfully expensive (although it is more than on the mainland) The tip about food for the first 1-2 days is right on target. Bring it with you.

We take as much as we can fit only because the stores are CRAZY on Sat. and Sunday. Plus by Sunday check-in they haven't gotten a truck so they begin to run low on some things. I suggest stopping at one of the fresh veg. fruit markets before you cross the bridge. They have excellent produce and it is pretty reasonable, plus the groceries are pretty picked over!
