Subject: Liquor and the OBX
So, I understand that beer and wine are sold at various places and liquor is also sold in ABC stores. I also understand that the old place you can buy liquor on Hatteras is in Buxton - is that right? Does that mean you can even get a drink at a restaurant?

This is a bit extreme? No? Does anyone know why it is like this - I mean come on - we can send kids to war...but you can't buy liquor?

Hmmmmmmm

NC and VA have State Stores and these are run by the state itself. These stores are the only place you can buy hard liquor. You can find beer/wine in many stores so unless you are in need of a quick alcohol fix you just need to think ahead a day and go buy what you need. They are closed on Sundays so plan ahead, or bring what you need with you.

Yes, you can buy a drink at a restaurant. It's not a dry town; you just can't buy the hard stuff in the same store where food and beverages are sold.

you can buy liquor by the drink in restaurants in Currituck County and in restaurants in the incorporated towns in Dare County (Duck, SS,KH, KDH, NH and Manteo.
Beer, wine and maybe some brown-bagging in restaurants on Hatteras Island.

I've heard that this may change in the near future. We come from PA and always stop in MD to pick up liquor, much less expensive than the state run stores in PA or NC.
The Buxton liquor store does not have the most extensive selection either.

If you want your vacation to be just like home, don't come to NC.
