Subject: beach etiquette
Just spent 2 weeks in Corolla, and was so disappointed by the amount of trash left on the beach at Whalehead, and the number of people blocking the road on the northern beaches (4-wheel drive area) with vehicles, chairs, umbrellas, or ball games! Have never seen it that bad in our 15 years of visiting. I'm sure many were first timers and didn't know better. Just a reminder to learn the rules of the road - pick up a brochure. Thanks!

Nicely stated....I always would like to blame "newbies", but I think people in general are just getting rude - and don't really pay attention to their surroundings. It's all about "me" these days,

It doesn't help that the Northern Beaches are really becoming the "It" place to go. Unfortunately, praise is often followed by bad-mannered "trend-ites".

Some of the problem is caused by the lack of support the Currituck Banks get from Currituck County. There should be more trash containers at the beaches and they should be emptied during the day and at night. There should be more deputies assigned to the area, and 2 vehicles patrolling the off road area during daylight hours.
Too bad Corolla didn't incorporate like Duck did.
Then they would'nt have to rely on County Commissioners who care only about how much money they can export to the mainland from the island.

Why should it be the responsibility of the Currituck County authorities? People should have respect for their surroundings, home or away from home. Why not TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU when you leave. I'm sure they would be quite disturbed if someone made this kind of mess in their front yard. I am an annual visitor to the OBX and am disgusted by these people. Or should I say "animals"? Let's keep the OBX as we love it. Clean and beautiful for our next visit.

It was MUCH better 25 or so years ago, before the YUPPIES took over the northern beaches. I fondly remember when Duck was only a few full-timer homes, a campground, and one store. Sigh...I won't even go back there now, the yuppies have ruined it.

More people means more bad people. "Newbies" or not. It's just a matter of increased volume. I doubt today's "trend-ites" are any more messy than visitors from the old days. More trash cans at the beach entry points would certainly help.

I actually had a family set up chairs, blankets and cordon off the area right where you are supposed to drive and used a glow stick to direct traffic around them and scream at us like we were bothering them. I wish there were more signs as you enter with the rules of the road or someone handing out pamphlets as they drive through. I think the worse was the groups of jeep rentals that kept clogging up the roads and just stop suddenly while driving.

Well, we never used glow sticks...LOL...but we did set ourselves up on purpose near some beach debris...an old tire and crate once.....even when you park the way you are supposed to, in the middle of the strip, some idiots do 50 mph past you within 20 feet.....I have two little kids playing in teh sand....that aint gonna fly....

So while I agree you shouldnt blovk the foreshore, in fact its a law, some people who drive too fast near people make it necessary soemtimes.....the speed limit is 15 mph when you are near people.....EVERYONE should "pick up a brochure", not just the beachgoers...the beach drivers (many with local plates) abuse the law as well.

Just my $.02

Pack it in, pack it out. Each time you go to the beach take a little bit of trash with you that you didn't bring. If everyone would do it, you would be surprised at the difference it would make.

Every time I go down to the coast I take a little more with me than I brought.
