Subject: Best sandy soft beaches? Distance from Corolla to
We are staying in Currituck so will have to drive to the beach anyway...suggestions for the best soft sandy beaches along the OBX?

Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Corolla to Roanoke (the aquarium)? Any coupons, etc avail for the aquarium?

Best rental companies for everything from baby equip to kayaks to binoculars? Also, does anyone rent golf carts?

Thanks!

It's about 40 or so miles and will take you about 1 and 1/2 hours to get there. The Aquarium is small. It is not a big one like a Ripleys or the Pine Knolls Aquarium further down the coast. Though nice, we were a bit disappointed in it because we were hoping it was like others we had been to.
The OBX doesn't really have a soft sand beach. The beach is left in it's natural state. Their are broken shells, seaweed, bits of wood, beach grass, and whatever can wash up out of the sea. The beach isn't combed like say a Florida beach might be. But it isn't anything extreme and I have never seen a speck of trash on the beach. We usually stay on Hatteras.

Curious...Always wondered why OBX doesn't comb the beach? Is it a money thing?

I thought the aquarium had really amazing touchtables for kids (I went years ago, but can't remember where). Did they have nice tables for kids to interact?

Hi, we are homeowners at The Currituck Club. The best beach is the public beach access near the southern entrance of The Currituck Club. It has restrooms, chair rentals, and refreshments.

The best rental place is JustForTheBeach. See www.justforthebeach.com

If you go to the acquarium, you should also go to Roanoke Festival Park in Manteo. Also, in Corolla, go see the new Wildlife Education Center at Currituck Heritage Park. It just opened in June.

Have a great vacation!

Yes they do have one area where kids can interact at the aquarium. My youngest did enjoy it, he was 7 last we went. My oldest was 12 and he was bored. They do have a very nice gift shop. Manteo is a very nice little town. You might want to go shopping there as another part to your day on Roanoke. There is a little restaurant there called the Full Moon Cafe. It is a quaint little place. Kids loved it.
