I golfed in OBX last year, and nothing was under $50. You are looking around $80, unless you go off the isle and hit some cheap rinky dink course thats not worth it.
I golfed Nagshead last year and it was worth it! Try after 3pm, its cheaper!

I was in Corolla the Sat to Sat starting June 24th and we played The Currituck Club twice. Both times we played after 3PM (twilight rate) and it was still $95ea. A great course but still a lot of $$...we played it mainly because it is a 5 minute drive from Corolla Light where we were staying. A course like Nags Head is at least a 45 to 60 minute drive from Corolla Light on Rte 12.

During peak season the prices are out of proportion to the niceness of the courses. A run of the mill courses before you cross the bridge (The Pointe) might be the best place to try. Afternoons are better for prices and might still run $70 and up. Currituck Club is by far the best but most expensive. Depending on the quality of course you are accustomed to you can find one that fits. Golf can be very fun depending on the wind conditions and overall most of kept in fairly good shape.

i am one of the biggest golf nuts you will find (usually 36 holes a week, with a very busy family and work schedule) but when i go to the beach, i go to the beach. but i guess taking a morning to golf would not be that bad. i'd rather surf if i can

Try Goose Creek in Grandy, should be less than $50. Probably the best deal going, pretty good course.

If you're renting a house (one of the larger ones) you might see some with golf passes. 15-20$ off the standard greens fees at the named course. 4 of us play 5-6 rounds so it adds up.
