Subject: Summer jobs
What opportunities are there for summertime jobs in the Outer Banks area, especially among stores and restaurants? If so, does anyone have any contact information? (I'm looking ahead, but this would POSSIBLY be for summer of 2007.) THANKS!

They hire like crazy. Get here and just go door to door. They will want to see you and fill out an application so you can't do much before you get here. Every place hires a few people in summer. You are a little late and that may hurt you.

Thanks for the info, although I'm from Pennsylvania and this would be for next summer. Again, thanks - at least now I have somewhere to start!

Yea, get here in May and run around and do applications. The calls WILL come before you get here. Your biggest problem will be a place to live. A job(or 2) is easy!!

this is very incorrect, the truth is that there really aren’t that many good jobs on the outer banks, i think you should expect to work at a restaurants doing dishes or waiting tables, there is a lot of seniority at these restaurants and allot of people that are going to be pissed that some rich kid from the north wants to take their tips, because obxer's don’t vacation, we live here.

I don't want to steal any tips but I live in Ohio and need to get out of here ASAP. I am very familiar with the Outer Banks especially Hatteras Frisco and Buxton and am currently trying to find a job somewhere or anywhere in OBX.Does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't seek employment here. Visit for a weekend, go home and come back next year.

Really? Why do you need to work here so badly? Can't you people just be satisfied with vacationing here and leave us some of our own local jobs?

I was born and raised in Columbus, OH. And I've come with my family to the OBX for years. I love it! It's like a second home. Don't hate us because we're not fortunate enough to live there year-round. I'm definitley not some spoiled rich kid. And my heart lies at the beach. Explain to me why I should be hated for that.

I just wanted to say that this group of individuals does not represent the general belief of the Outer Banks Locals. Of course it can be difficult finding a job out here, and yes, my fiance' just had a year round job taken out from under her by summer employment. But the thing this group doesn't realize is that we would not even have opportunities for jobs if it wasn't for people visiting (yes even long-term summer) from out of town.

But yes, there are many places to look for jobs, try the individual businesses, they really help. And to look for a job as a lifeguard, in KDH and Nags Head they are closely affiliated with the Fire department, just look up the FD numbers online.

And remind the belligerent locals that if it weren't for visitors, we'd hardly have jobs aside from the fishing industry.

Wow...I just visited the OBX for my first time and fell in Love with it!! I plan on moving there someday and hate to think that I would not be wanted there. You all are very Lucky to have been born there and have such a beautiful place to live and if it wasnt for people coming to the OBX then your unemployment line would be very very long....Cheer up you live on the ocean and their is plenty of room for others to enjoy it!!

I've grown up on the Outer Banks my entire life and love it but i must say it is extremely difficult to find a job. When the season picks up in the summer it will be easier but you will more than likely be layed off come september.

FORGET ABOUT OTHER PLANS AND COMMENTS!!! MAKE MONEY HERE BUT WITH SOME WORK !!! THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!! Make SOME MONEY IN a VERY FUN WAY!!! :-) HOW TO TURN $6 INTO $6,000!!!!!! READING THIS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00!(There are a few similar plans but I prefer to do the hard cash way). So I thought, Yeah right, this must be a scam, but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right? Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!!... within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works....Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy! Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage)
IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success:

STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper;PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST. Now get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent thievery).
Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:

#1) Marlon Forside 9111 Reagan Meadow Court Houston, Tx 77064
#2) Ken Blackburn 69272 Warren Cutrer Road Kentwood, LA 70444
#3) Tyler Chapman 27539 Woerner Road Elberta, AL 36530
#4) Hristina Reith 7382 Co Rd 607, Iron Mountain, MI 49801
#5) Terrance Lasley 1167 Halloran, Cahokia,IL 62206
#6)Daniel Armentrout,5053 Irish Hts Dr Summersville,WV 26651

STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR Name as number 6 on the list.

STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again, and again.

PLEASE

This local should think before he talks, if it wasn't for the vacationer's you guys would be as poor as you were before we started coming down. If you want, it would be easy to get people to go to other places instead of the OBX and leave some of you locals your jobs, but then there would be no need for them because no one would vacation there anymore

I think it's crazy how the locals act toward ppl that vacation here.I'm not originally from here but have lived here for seven years. If anyone wants to seek employment here, the key is to start looking early and apply everywhere. I feel that no one can take my job (local or vistor) unless i let them, by being a poor employee. If it wasn't for the vacationers i wouldn't make the money i make @ a seasonal job. So with that said, Thanks to everyone that visits the OBX, i appreciate ya'll
