Subject: Local flavor restaurant not to miss
This is my first visit to the OBX -- I will be in KDH. I am coming from Mass., where I spent summers on Martha's Vineyard. Now, I am looking forward to a true OBX experience.

What restaurants of local flavor do I want to be sure to visit? I am guessing some excellent seafood and real NC BBQ. But, I am open to all suggestions.

Thank you!

We loved the Colington. We were there last Wednesday. The food was excellent and the service was even better! The crab bisque is out of this world!

I would not worry about NC BBQ. There are some good ones but BBQ is something you like your way and there are many ways. I like some here and hate others.

The Colington Cafe requires a reservation but it is wonderful. Owens is the best but you will pay for it. There are hundreds of places here and each has a charm it's own and so it is hard to suggest the perfect place above all others. Black Pelican is nice and right near the ocean. Everyplace has seafood and most is local stuff.

If you decide to do a day trip to Ocracoke, be sure to eat at The Back Porch their crabcakes are wonderful ~ we've never had a bad experience there.

Absolute "do not miss" is the Colington Cafe. Yes, they do take reservations up to three days in advance, and it is well worth it. Wonderful atmosphere, very sumptuous food, professional service.

Argyle's is excellent as is the Flying Fish. Mama Kwans and the Rundown Cafe are local color as is Awful Arthurs and Sam and Omies.

Hurrican Moe's in Pirate's Cove Marina and Sam and Omie's are our favorite. Of course lunch at Dune Burger is great to take and eat on the beach.

You've probably gone by now, but maybe you'll return! By all means don't miss Collington Cafe, Totugas Lie, Mama Kwan's, and the Full Moon in Manteo!

I can not rave enough about Tortugas Lie! The Steamed clams are fantastic and there was a special with blackened tuna, goat cheese pesto and tomatoe pepper salsa that was completely out of this world. When back on the OBX I will definately be found at Tortugas Lie!
