Subject: Saturday Traffic in August
We are driving down from NJ in mid-August. Planning on stopping in Norfolk Friday night and then finishing up the trip on Saturday (after stopping at Costco and stocking up, etc.). We are renting a house in Rodanthe.

I've noticed some messages about traffic on Saturday. What do we need to know about when to be where to avoid the most traffic? Thanks so much!!

It will be heavy but as long as there are no accidents you shouldn’t have a lot of problems.

The earlier you get there the better but then you will have to hang out until you can check in.

We plan on arriving about that same time but going to Ocracoke, however we will get there early and then go to Manteo for lunch at Al’s and them maybe do the aquarium.

if you are going to Corolla. . . if you get here after 11:00AM, there will be traffic! I know, I watch the traffic on Duck Road out my kitchen window. Otherwise. . .it is the worst after 5:00PM on The Big Road. Enjoy!

We also are staying in Rodanthe for 2 weeks the middle of August ... best suggestion for travel would definitely be hitting the road early morning from Norfolk. You can hit the Dune's Restaurant before Rt 12 and enjoy a great meal ... Rodanthe is only 20 miles beyond that. We travel with all of our perishables in coolers, pick up more ice before we hit Rt 12 ... then park the cars near Pamlico Sound (Mirlo Beach) and enjoy the day until check-in time!

Have a great time!

Try to cross the Wright Bridge to Kitty Hawk nlt 0930 to beat the traffic.

We live in PA. We go down to the Outer Banks, Nags Head for 2 weeks in August. We leave at 2 a.m. and make it down to the Outer Banks before 8 a.m. The trip is alot easier this way, we miss all traffic.
