Subject: Who has the best.......?

Last year was our first trip to the OBX and I visited this board in advance and got some really good tips and advice - THANK YOU! Somone did a post last summer where you could submit who you thought had the best burgers, pizza, buffet, etc. and it was SO helpful. We ate at places that were recommended and didn't get surprised by "YUCK - well we learned not to go there next year." So how about it? Who has the best:

Burgers?
Hot Dogs?
Pizza?
Mexican?
Seafood Buffet?
Chinese/Japanese?
Breakfast?
Sandwiches/Subs?
BBQ?
Steak?

Burgers: Red Drum, Chili Peppers or Spanky's

Hot Dogs: Capt'n Franks!

Mexican: Coastal Cactus

Any buffet: who cares

Chinese/Japanese: don't bother with these at all here. There are no good ones.

Breakfast:
Grits Grill, Millers, Jolly Rodger, Keeprs Galley, the list is endless.

Sandwhiches/subs:
Lou's Deli, Goodlife Gourmet, Quizno's, Black Pelican.

BBQ: each to his own here. I like High Cotton's.

Steak: Jk's

Crablegs: Chili Peppers or Dirty Dicks.

Best Hideaway: Goodlife Gourmet

Best on the Beach: Owens (and you will pay for it)

last time we were at jimmy's it was about 25 dollars and the seafood was just about not edible. id go to one of the other fine local restaurants. there are a lot better choices to give you more bang for your buck. (i'd recommend the local stuff though, as you can get the more commercialized restaurants anywhere)

Seafood Buffet? Don't eat seafood.

Chinese/Japanese? That doesn't even sound RIGHT on the OBX.

Breakfast? Guava Jelly's in Timbuck II

Sandwiches/Subs? Duck Deli

BBQ? Pigman's was pretty good but I hadn't ate in a week so I don't know if that is a good choice or not.

Steak? Buy one from Tommy's Market and make it yourself. :) It's the BEST steak around.

RV's has great food and good prices. Bob's Eat and Get the Hell out best pancakes and most for your money for breakfast. Tale of the Whale our favorite.

Lisa's Pizza in Rodanthe area is excellent and if you go to Ocracoke, eat at The Back Porch ~ best crabcakes ever!

If you want an awesome gourmet experience, try Meridian 42 in Southern Shores. Call for reservations. We have an awesome Japanese restaurant..great sushi, called Taiko in Nags Head, very fresh. No such thing as a good Buffet, and Mexican would be Coastal Cactus. Hope this helps.

The Lucky 12 Tavern in Nags Head, has the best Pizza around also great burgers and philly cheese steaks, plus the bar scene is popular late night, always open till 2am.

We love Sam and Omie's has really good breakfasts, lunch and dinner. It's always crowded though. Dare Devil in has great subs and pizza.Dune burger has great burgers and fries and shakes.

We were there on vacation last week and tried:
Coastal Cactus - BLECH!!! American Pie - good pizza. Barefoot Bernies - good food and funny sumo wrestling!
Mako Mike's - pretty good.
Big Al's - everyone's favorite! Stack M High - okay food, nice people.
And of course we got Kill Devil's custard four different days - YUMMY!!!

Top Dog Cafe on Hatteras Island has the absolute best burgers & wraps on the Outer Banks! The steamed shrimp is also the most delicious I've ever put in my mouth anywhere!!You have to try it!!

B J's Carolina Cafe in mainland Currituck is a secret off the beach. No hustle bustle, great food from breakfast to seafood and steaks. Impeccably clean and worth the drive or stop on your way to the OBX or back home

Red Drum has the best service, clam chowder and all round menu items.
Dirty Dicks was overpriced and everything fried was mostly breading. Go for the clever store with their t-shirts, but miss the meal.

When we went on vacation we ate pizza and ice cream at American Pie...Awesome!!!!
Can't really help you on the Seafood other than don't eat at Kelly's Tavern - it was expensive and the shrimp tasted like they were straight from a mud hole. It may have been one bad experience, but for the price, I wouldn't try it again.
Spanky's burgers were good!
Chinese in OBX...are you kidding?

For seafood my favorite is Sugar Creek. Not over priced like so many others - especially if you go for lunch.

Mexican has always been La Fogata

If you are in Duck, NC, there is only one place to go for good pizza, and don't be fooled by the advertising of Pizza Pizzazz - it's possibly the worst pizza ever! You have to try The Wave Pizza Cafe. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the menu. All fresh toppings and it's true New York style pizza. Locally owned by a single family, it's fairly new to Duck, and they relocated from NYC, bringing great pizza with them! Small and tucked away in Osprey Landing shopping area, it can easily be missed, but this gem is open year-round and also provides an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy gorgeous sunsets over the Sound during the evening hours. Take out or local delivery.

If you go to Corolla, check out Corolla Market and Deli. They have AWESOME sandwiches. Also a store with food, t shirts, toys, sunscreen, ice, etc. We went there several times when we were in the Corolla Light area. The prices are a little higher than big chain stores, but the convenience and friendly staff more than made up for it.

Chinese - Why Bother? I can get that at home
Seafood - Kelly's, and Tale of the Whale

Milkshakes and Dolphin Boats - John's Drive Inn DON'T MISS IT< IT'S THE BEST!
Pizza - It's all average.The OBX needs a Ledo's
MexicanStay away from La Fogata - unless roaches are your thing. Found one on a plate there - YECCH!
