Subject: surf fishing south Hatteras
How is the surf fishing on the southern end of Hatteras? Last year we stayed in Avon and the surf fishing was not good by our house. This year we are staying south Hatteras Lighthouse road (Hatteras by the sea community). Is the fishing better? We will be there 3rd week in September

It's called fishing not catching you need to be in the right place at the right time, to predict what you will catch 2 months away is like predicting what the weather will be on that day .

As you are going to be near the light house try fishing cape point , look for Red drum tackle web site and find out what the fishing report says be for you go , that is about as good as you will get.

You also need to know how to read the beach in order to find a good fishing spot, just because it wasn’t good in front of last years house doesn’t mean that its not good any where else . What were you using for bait where were you fishing in close or out far? What kind if rigs were you using these all will help you catch fish. Do you have any experience surf fishing?

We were fishing with double rigs using finger mullet and squid. What do you look for when you read a beach? I will be fishing wheather I catch anything or not. I was just hoping that the fishing would be better on the south facing beach since it will be fairly close to the inlt.

Look for deep holes and inlets in the sand bar at low tide the fish will come and go threw the inlets so fish as close to it as possible

You can identify it as an area that the waves are not breaking indicating that it is deeper in that area,

Deep hole are areas between the beach and sand bar that are too deep to support waves . This can be seen at any tide . But looking at low is the best , fish as close to that outer sand bar as you can get.
