My husband and I are looking for a good restaurant to have a nice, quiet, romantic dinner. Can anyone recommend any place with good food, good wine, and a quiet atmosphere? (No crowds, please!) We've already been to Owens, which was fine, but we'd like someplace a little more intimate. Anything in Manteo even? Thanks for your help!

Owens is a good resturant but it gets crowded this time of year. I am not sure where you are staying so I am not sure if Kitty Hawk is too far or if Nags Head is better. Kitty Hawk has a small place called Argyles Cafe which might fit your requirements. You need to make a restervation which is pretty unusual and maybe is exactly what will make it more appealing to you. They are on the bypass at the 3 mile post just north of Eckner St.

Near Southern Shores there is a place called Meridian 42 (which I don't understand since this area is in the 75th meridian - I am not sure where the 42nd meridian is but the resturant is between Southern Shores and Kitty Hawk off Ocean Blvd (some improperly call it Duck rd).

Tail of the Whale is on the causway going from Nags Head to Manteo and it has a nice menu and has soundfront dining with a great water view.

Manteo has a couple nice places. 1587 is on the Manteo waterfront and you need a reservation. There is also Clara's, but it has been 2+ years since I have been there. As I recall it gets pretty crowded too.

Maybe others have suggestions. One problem with this area is that there are hundreds of resturants. Some good, some great, very few are awful and it is almost impossable to try them all.

Meridian 42 is an excellant choice for a beautiful meal. The 42 meridian runs thru
Spain and Italy, through Barcelona and Rome specifically and they take their ingrediants from these regions. (I know this because their menu explains their name) The Outer Banks is on the 36 meridian.

My husband and I just returned from the Outer Banks and ate at 2 WONDERFUL restaurants while there. We ate our anniversary dinner at Tale of the Whale on the Manteo/Nags Head causeway. It was very romantic and the food was delicious! Also, we ate at Fishermans Wharf in Wanchese. It was very good food and right on the water also. I highly recommend these 2 places! Enjoy your trip!

Definately 1587. they are a wonderful restaurant overlooking the Marina in Manteo. The food is scrumptious and they have a great wine list. Very intimate with excellent service.

The Leftbank in Duck is the finest you can get. Colington Cafe presents a romantic, quaint setting also and the food is outstanding.

Try the Colington Cafe on Colington Road in Kill Devil Hills, just one mile from the intersection but in a whole'nother world. Tucked into a curve surrounded by live oaks, this little gem's menu resembles country-French but is solidly based in local know-how. Make a reservation a few days ahead.

1587 is a nice restaurant with lovely views of the Manteo marina. The food is good, but the service is less than friendly. Romantic? Hmm. with unfriendly staff, I would not recommend it for a romantic evening. The staff is a little too snotty
