Subject: Restaurants on Hatteras Is.
My husband, teenage stepson and I will be staying in Hatteras in the Frisco area. We would appreciate info on what restaurants to try and which ones to avoid. Thanks!!

The restaurants we (my wife and I) like:

The mad crabber - good steamed shellfish, reasonable
price (Avon)

The dolphin den - good coconut shrimp with a good dipping
sauce - average prices (Avon)

The quarterdeck - a little pricey and at times slow, but
the food makes it worth it (Frisco)

Bubba's - Okay this is me more than my wife. I love
bubba's BBQ. My wife isn't a huge fan of their sauce, I love it (Frisco)

Gingerbread House - Super bakery and breakfast,
good pizza too (Frisco)

Lisa's Pizzeria - Pizza is FANTASTIC and pretty cheap (Rodanthe)

The Fish House - Our favorite place for lunch.
food is fantastic and cheap (Buxton)

Tides - We ate there for the first time last year and it
was fantastic. could be a one hit wonder though . . . don't know
(Buxton)

Howard's Pub - You've got to venture over to Ocracoke if
for no other reason then to eat here.

Buxton Munch CO Restaurant -
Had lunch here once when the fish house was full and it was very good . . . .
could've been lucky though

Dolphin Den in Avon had awesome crab legs! Went to Howard's on Ocrocoke not impressed. Staff was NOT freindly! I had a fish sandwich, worst thing I have every put in my mouth!!!! Others in our party said burgers were good though!

If you like Italian, a MUST-STOP place is "Nino's" in Avon. Very friendly, great Italian dishes, and plent of it. Their pizza is also wonderful.

We always have good food at the Froggy Dog and loved Down Under, but have heard it's not as good as it once was when it was near the Rodanthe Pier. Quarter Deck, Dolphin Den, Lisa's Pizzeria are also good.

Our family loves Howard's Pub in Ocracoke but find the burgers and shrimp are the best bets. Also, went to Dolphin Den for first time in 2003 and want to make it a tradition - good food and wonderful crab cakes. We did NOT like the Soundside Restaurant in Buxton. Too "fishy" and strange foods. Also ate at Big Al's in Manteo and enjoyed it, but were disappointed that Fisherman's Wharf in Wanchese was closed in 2003. Have heard it still isn't open. It was the absolute best!

Our family reunion is always on Hatteras Island, and we never miss eating at The Buxton Munch Co. It may be small, but whoa! the food is AWESOME! We have NEVER had anything but raves about Buxton Munch! The decor is retro and the music is cool and the staff seems to be having a ball each time we go in! This place is open year 'round, and it is a HUGE LOCAL HANGOUT -- so that should tell you how very GOOD it really is! DO NOT MISS EATING HERE! Truly!

I am surprised that no one has mentioned The Mad Crabber. Awsome food and staff. I can't wait to go there again.
