there are fireworks EVERYWHERE. if you are staying in southern kitty hawk near the beach, you can see the ones they shoot off of avalon pier really well, but I think every town shoots some off somewhere. there are a few piers to fish off of if you want to pay for it, jeanettes, nags head, avalon and theres probably a few more, but i cant think of them right now. you can always surf fish, its a bit more fun I think because you are not just dropping a hook in the water with about 50 other people at the same time

YES,there are fireworks everywhere. There are the ones that the local government set off, then there are the hundreds of ones that people set off on the beach. I'm not just talking little sparklers, some that we set off are almost as spectacular as the real big ones. You have to hit the beach about 7 or 8 to find a good spot, set up your chairs, and the lights begin about 9ish. You will have a great time. OBXer.

please do me a favor and dont try to park around the avalon pier for the fireworks, its pointless to find parking, i lived across the street from the pier and had people trying to park in my driveway and giving my roommates and I dirty looks and being rude when we would not let them park. we were having a party ourselves and had little parking to begin with

The messages are correct about the fireworks it will be a great time. The "private" shows are better than the real planned show. Mainly because they last longer.

As for fishing, the saying goes there is fishing and catching fish. July is not the best time to catch fish from either the beach or the pier. It is relaxing though and fun to do. Every now and then you catch something good. The fall is the best time to fish on the banks if you are really into catching fish.

Enjoy...

well then as for some fun for your 18 yr old, rent a surfboard for a few days, a lot of fun, it will keep him active too! just make sure he listens to what the rental folks tell him in reguards of saftey, and stay away from the shorebreak!!!!!
