i stayed in avon for a week and visit duck regularly, and the two villages are both very nice. duck is a bit more exclusive, bigger, more expensive homes, avon has a more old outer banks feel to it. yes it is full of rental houses and tourists however it has more of an old outer banks feel than duck. avon is a bit further from the larger attractions than duck, but its also a bit more peaceful. avon has no lifeguard service in the summer, but duck does, i supose its all about what you are looking for, both are nice

I would agree with guest 3298 except for the part about Avon being more Old Style than Duck. Avon is more like Corolla with mostly huge pink, lime, fusca colored homes with 7 bedrooms. Not Old Style at all.

Duck is more upscale with fancy boutiques , upscale restaurants over priced food stores . Avon is more down to earth . As this is your first time you might like this site .

Avon is very nice. It is not full of huge pink or lime colored homes. Most of the beach houses have the gray weathered look to them and are very nice inside. Our house was oceanfront and had four bedrooms. Avon is perfect for a family. It is quiet and does not have that comercialized atmosphere at all.

We have stayed in Avon every year for the past 6 years. We love it there. Duck IS more upscale, but we enjoy everything about Avon. Rented through Surf or Sound Realty and have always been pleased with the cottages as well as with the service. Beaches in Avon are considerably less crowded, plus, Canadian Hole, a great swimming are on the sound, is just 2 miles south of town. We highly recommend Avon.
