Subject: Things you always bring from home
I know people are going to laugh at me, but I always take my coffee maker. I like good coffee, and even the expensive rentals have crappy coffee makers.

I always bring my lemon squeezer for fresh lemonade. Most rentals don't have them.

OP, we are with you! We bring the freshly home roasted coffee beans, the hand bean grinder as well. One year we did bring the small-ish expresso machine along. The kids stuff gets packed, so, so can ours! My husband loves his fresh coffee!

The first time we went to the OBX my mother insisted on bringing her rocking chair from home, we had new babies in the family and she wanted to rock them, My dad had to rent a u haul to bring all the stuff. This was 19 years ago!

We bring our iHome. This way we can listen too and recharge all our iPods.

We bring linens, even if they are included. Just like my own stuff.

Definitely bring all our own linens and towels, even if they are provided...it's way more comfortable when you have that stuff of your own.

120....very considerate of your Mother to want to rock her grandbabies, and your husband too for going to the effort to accomodate her. As a guy though, I can only imagine what was going through his mind about his mother-in-law when he went to get the Uhaul specially for her rocking chair!

We bring our coffee grinder/maker combo as well - along with the whole bean Kona and Verona.

One large non-stick fry pan cause it's essential and the ones we always get in rentals are all scratched up.

And one mid-sized steamer pot for shrimp night and anytime we do pasta. We just pack spices and condiments in the pot so it's doesn't take up more space in the car than we otherwise have.

I am going to get a squeege before we go! I always pour water down the windows on the porch to get the salt off and everyone who has stuff under us gets mad! If I,m going to get an oceanfront house, I,m going to see what I came to see, the ocean!

Geesh..lol..we bring so much!
A food box, with boxes of cereals, spices, snack foods, tea bags, sugar, you name it.
Flashlights.
First Aid stuff: Bandaids, Neosporin, Aloe, aspirin, pepto. etc.
Binoculars.
Laundry soap, dish soap, sponges, toilet paper, paper towels.
And we bring as much bottled water, pop, gatorade as we can cram in. Its always cheaper to bring from home!

pillow....kitchen spices...ice cream maker....margaetta ville machine....I-pods and appropriate wires to hook them into the house sound system
as a guy who owns and rents properties down in obx i wish the person with the window squeegee would come and stay at my properties! But the guy who drills holes and hangs up his own swing can go elsewhere! ;)

Our one pan that always cooks the perfect over easy egg and the funny looking egg flipping utensil that my wife uses on the eggs. Also, our own set of kitchen knives. We are both chefs and after renting twice we decided that it would save a lot of headaches to have our own sharp knives instead of those dull beat up things in most rental units.

All great ideas! We are renting for first time in Rodanthe in June. I have started making a list of things to bring. I put my daughter in charge of planning meals and will definitely be bringing my crock pot. A pork roast cooked all day and shredded adding John Boy and Billys grilling sauce and honey BBQ sauce makes an excellent meal and feeds an army.

We take a small George Foreman Grill to use most nights. It saves time over the old BBQ outdoor grills so we can cook, eat and get back to the beach.

Every year we wonder if we can fit one more thing in the car when packing to go to the beach. Our George Foreman tabletop grill is most helpful in quick dinners. We always bring two cases of sodas to get us started so we dont have to rush right out to the grocery store upon arrival.
