We'll be staying on the Outer Banks for the first time. Any 'foodies' willing to suggest a great restaurant...fresh local fish...romance...local color? Much appreciated.

It depends on where you are staying. If you are in the Hatteras/Buxton/Avon/Salvo area, then I can't help you too much. If you are in the Duck to Nags Head area then try these:

Owens - Nags Head - upscale, dependable, always good

Blue Point - Duck - Good, not a bad place
FishBones - Duck- Good, always dependable

Colington - Colinton Cafe - Nice, quiet, good food, small, make a reservation early

Nags Head - Lone Cedar - Popular, very good, crowded in summer but well worth it

Manteo - Clara's or 1857 - good, somewhat over rated but nice

Southern Shores - Meridian 57 - Very Nice, good food, a bit noisy.

Nags Head - Penguin Isle - Good, popular.

Nags Head - Kelly's - popular, good, not bad at all.

Kitty Hawk - Ocean Blvd - Over rated but not bad, good food but nothing special.

Kitty Hawk - Black Pelican - Good, very consistant, nice place!

Nags Head - JK's - Best steak place on the beach without a doubt!!!!!!!!

Tim

Thanks for the advice. This was the first time I've used a message board but I was thrilled to see a response so immediate. In fact, my brother Owen recommmended Owen's and assured me it had nothing to do with the name...! Needless to say it will be the first place we visit. Then we'll work our way down the list! Thank you

We like the Bistro at Beach Bread Company (MP4 1/2 KH) for atmosphere and food.
We also like Argyle's Restaurant and Piano Bar (MP 2 1/2 KH).
Both are small, so try for a reservation.

Thanks, I love piano bars, so Argyles it is. I don't normally associate them with beach vacations...how often do they have live music?

Meridian 42 is without a doubt, the best and most forward thinking restaurant on the outer banks. they change their menu with the season and serve the best crabcakes i've ever had! check out their website for menu and wine list etc.

manteo has a restaurant on the waterfront called The Waterfront Trellis - very romantic dining soundfront + you can take strools afterwards to the local shops (blacksmith/pottery/souvenier)

I am in Iraq right now and will be coming home to NC in mid-may. My wife and I are having our 3rd anniversary and I want it to be rememberable. Where is a nice restaurant to take her too. Price doesn't matter.

Hello!

My fiancee and I are researching an Outer Banks Beach wedding. We are trying to find an affordable venue where we can both get married by water views and also have an indoor reception with water views. We are from out of the area and would probably rent a, you guessed it, beachfront property and then go closeby for the actual wedding. Any particular suggestions. And thanks in advance for the help!!!

Argyles is by far the best and they can really make it a romantic experience if you sit in the wine room. we love PJ and Deb, so much we drive 3 for the food!!
