Subject: Kitty Hawk to Ocracoke Island...

i will vacationing in mid June, staying in Kitty Hawk. Would like to drive to Ocracoke Island one of the days and would like to know what would be a good day and time to go.How long will it take to get there.

Any day is good. It takes about 1.5 hr to get to the ferry dock at Hatteras Village and a 40 min ferry ride over to Ocracoke island and 15-20 min to the town after you get off the ferry. Figure the same time back and add a little because you have to wait for the ferry each way. Leave early - have lunch.

you are planning on staying all day let me reccomend howards pub for lunch. open all year round, and I personally haven't had a bad meal there, and we go at least twice every year.

Cafe Atlantic . . . . though I haven't been there for a few years was always wonderful for dinner, though a little pricey. It's worth a stop IMO, though it'd be nice if someone whose been there more recently can confirm that the food is still top notch.

Avoid the weekends. Tues. thru Thurs. good. On the way down you'll pass Bodie Island light house, Chicamocomico Life saving station(s), Cape Hatteras light house. Trying to see everything makes for a long day. I agree--leave early.
