I spent way too much time cooking on vacation last year. Let's talk about food! What are everyone's favorite restaurants along the Outer Banks? Where are they? What do they serve? How pricey? Give us all the details. Read Replies...

Subject: Restaurant advice
Hello, I have already read some posts on here referring to food, I haven't been for about five years. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good affordable dining (breakfast, lunch, or dinner). I once ate at Port O Call restaurant, and it was expensive and not really too great. I am coming with my boyfriend, my friend, and her three year old son. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. Read Replies...

Subject: Who has the best...?
Last year was our first trip to the OBX and I visited this board in advance and got some really good tips and advice - THANK YOU! Somone did a post last summer where you could submit who you thought had the best burgers, pizza, buffet, etc. and it was SO helpful. We ate at places that were recommended and didn't get surprised by "YUCK - well we learned not to go there next year." So how about it? Who has the best:
Burgers?
Hot Dogs?
Pizza?
Mexican?
Seafood Buffet?
Steak? Read More...

Subject: Local flavor restaurant not to miss
This is my first visit to the OBX -- I will be in KDH. I am coming from Mass., where I spent summers on Martha's Vineyard. Now, I am looking forward to a true OBX experience. What restaurants of local flavor do I want to be sure to visit? I am guessing some excellent seafood and real NC BBQ. But, I am open to all suggestions. Thank you! Read More...

Subject: Favorite Restaurants?
What are your favorite restaurants and why? Mine:
1) Tale of the Whale. On scenic Manteo causeway, good food and value, live music on gazebo, family friendly
2) Tortuga's Lie. Funky, good appetizers and drink selection. Margaritaville on the OBX!
3) Mako Mikes. Creative decor, family friendly, good menu. Read More...

Subject: Restaurant disappointment
Just got back from a Spring Break OBX trip and was very disappointed with some of the restaurants this time.

Bob's: I ordered chicken fried steak. I received a fried steak with bottled beef gravy and onions. It tasted like fried salsbury steak! When has chicken fried steak come with beef gravy? We also had two orders of scrapple, burnt, and the one I tasted, tasted like fish. Yuck! That, with a rude and inattentive waitress, makes me think I will simply stay the Hell out, rather than eat.

Tale of the Whale: went on the 2nd night after they opened this season and their special (tuna and dolphin) was less than special. Bland to nearly tasteless and cold. Reheating didn't help. I can only guess it is due to being rusty after being closed for the season. Makes me hesitate to eat there again, forking over $400 for food of such poor taste. On a positive note, Outback was good. Subject: Any non-smoking restaruants?
We're visting for a few days this summer and are wondering if anyone can recommend some good restaurants that also happen to be smoke-free. I'm guessing there aren't many, if any. If not, any suggestions on places that are less smokey than others and still have good food? We'll be staying in Ocracoke but travelling up to Kitty Hawk, so anywhere between and including the two would be helpful. Thanks. Read More...
