my family and i are making our first trip to the Outer Banks the second week in september, we will be staying in the Salvo area, but plan on visiting most of the banks. Due to current gas prices, when we decide to eat out, we will need to plan our meals, any suggestions for resturants where we can get the most food for our money?

We would also like do grill some seafood at our cottage, are there any good places where we could purchase it in the area?

Thanks in advance

All resturants here are expensive - you better plan to eat in. There are no frills in Salvo so you will have to burn that$3 /gal gas to go shopping and to eat.

Seafood is available everywhere

considering the drive from salvo to up where sonic is, I don't think it'd be all that cheap given gas prices.

the best way to eat cheaply when on vacation there is to make sure you have a kitchen in the place you're staying and try to eat in when you can, especially for dinner.

if you pack and travel with some items from your spice rack (garlic salt, italian seasoning, salt, pepper, seasoned salt, onion powder etc) you can make meals very cheaply. Heck a spaghetti dinner is only gonna set you back maybe $7 (if you get bread and parmesean cheese) and you should be able to feed AT LEAST 4 people.

we try to eat out at lunch time when things are cheaper then eat in for dinners.

as far as good places for seafood, I'm not sure what's up in salvo, but "risky business" in buxton has long been a favorite of mine.

There's always your drive-up chain restaurants like McDonalds, pizza and sub shops and take out places. Before we go to our destination, we always stop at the Visitor's Bureau to pick up the FREE dining out guides, maps, tourist magazines, etc. Most have sample menus and coupons.

If you want to try local restaurants, go at lunch. It's less expensive and the portions are smaller, so you don't over eat. You can also buy fresh seafood at the local markets and make some great meals for a lot less money. Personally, I'd rather not cook anything on vacation. The cook needs a break too.

Try Buxton Munch! Some of the lowest prices on the OBX that we've seen, yet the food is stupendous! I like their motto:"A Groovy Little Place, with a Whole Lotta Taste!"

When you first come on the island, you have to go to Spanky's. I think it is in Nags Head beside Jummy Buffets. It is the best hamburger place in all the obx.

best grocery stores are Food Lion and hit walmart, prices are cheap enough that you dont need to bring food from home, like we did the first time here, next time I will shop here. Do not go to HARRIS TEETER, VERY EXPENSIVE food Lion is half the cost!!!!Also dont buy alot of snacks the kids wont eat them, I brought tons from home and they barely touched them thought they would be hunngry from swimming, prob was they swanm from 9am-9pm and did not want to eat at all!!!
