Subject: Perm Employment options on OBX

Which newspaper or employment agency would you recommend to search perm employment on OBX or Elizabeth City areas? Can you make at least $26.00p/h anywhere?

I found full time employment is rare on the Outer Banks. Most are vacation places and not a lot of industry here. the resturaunts are only for students and to find a job to pay the high rent here average (800 to 1500) per month not inc utilities. the shoping is about 5 to 10% higher here on the beach also. there is work to be found but you will need to work two jobs or both spouses need to work to actually make it here on the Outer Banks. If you want to make that amount of money you will need to go into business for yourself. But there are alot of one man shows here and alot of fly by nighters also.

NOT! THE OBX SUCKS if you are looking for long term employment.
It is expensive to live here and the jobs do not equal the cost of living. ex. less pay but equivalent cost of housing to a big city.

$26.00p/h ??? What are you ...drunk? Try $7-$10 p/h. Employers wont pay a living wage to employees here. Why should they? Thay have all those damn forign exchange students and Mexicans to work for next to nothing. I lived there for 8 years. Over 15 years exp in my field with impeccable references when I got there and was lucky to find a job in a doctors office for $8.00p/h. Thats why all the REAL locals have to work 2 and 3 jobs just so they can eat. Its a sin.

There is perm employment to be found, and making good money. you just have to look in the right places and be patient. honestly, working a summer job also is not a bad idea. you can make a ton of money if you are willing to work in the summer. Try bar tending. It makes great money and they mainly need weekend and night time help.
