Depends on what you are looking for .....are you bringing family with small kids or are you all adults or have older kids. Lots to do anywhere but also all of area is safe and clean.
Corolla is northern end and you have Currituck Club (great area--esp if you are a golfer), Whalehead Beach area and Corolla Light.
Then, you have Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head and South Nags Head. Most locals live in NH or KDH.......
can you give a little info about your group and I will try to give some more perspective from a year round resident of over 30 years (and am in the hospitality business too!)

Deff KDH/Kitty Hawk/Nags Head areas. Nothing south of it, and Duck,Corolla, ect is too crowded

I love staying in Kitty Hawk or Kill Devil Hills. It is kinda of halfway from the top to the bottom of outer banks. So you can easily drive to Corella or down to Ocracoke. We love to go to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Not crowded and found beautiful shells. We stay in a house that has a beautiful ocean view right across from ocean

Im going to say the 4x4 area on swan beach. You enjoy wild Mustangs walking around one year they went under our house it was cool and there is no heavy traffic just 4x4 suvs and trucks no car will make it plus no paved roads all sand its wonderful ........

I stayed in different area's up and down the OB, I like Hatteras Island from Avon - Hatteras Village. Not many places like this area, what more do you need other than a beautiful beach.

Lots of good restaurants and shopping, great beaches and you are close to everything.
You can find everything from a small condo to a really large house with private pool.....depends on what you are looking for. If you are a golfer, you might like staying in The Village at Nags Head. Great course there, Nags Head Golf Links.

To 9794 -Two families with teenagers ages 16-20. Looking for an area that is not too busy. Would like to be on the beach and in a not so populated area. The men like to fish. Could you recommend an area and a realtor?

South Nags Head. It is not crowded and the beaches are beautiful. It is a very short drive to the Oregon Inlet which is a great spot for fishermen. Check Stan White Realty www.outerbanksrentals.com

For almost 20 years we've tried everywhere. We went to Buck Island in October 05. We booked Buck Island again for the following summer, and now we are heading there again in 2 weeks, plus another week in August. So, as you can see, I'm partial to Buck Island. It's gated, but not snobby. The prices are really no different. It's proximity to everything in corolla is unbeatable.

If you're looking to be ON THE BEACH, the 4X4 area of Corolla is where you want to be...try Swan Beach. You'll drive about 4 miles ON THE BEACH to get there. You'll need a 4X4 vehicle...you can rent one and leave your own car at Twiddy's parking lot. The semi-oceanfronts is where you'll find the best value and the best views.

It's hard to beat Ocracoke. No chain motels or restaurants or mini-golf--just a laid-back, quaint place with a gorgeous beach. Walk down tree-lined Howard's Street (oldest street on the island), rent a bike to explore the backroads, and linger a while at the harbor. Good restaurants and shops, too.

Responding to 9794 "that is subjective". We have 2 families: one with 3 kids (8/10/12); the other with 2 kids (4 and infant). Never been to OBX. Would appreciate some perspective!!!

We enjoy our stays at Pirate's Cove on Roanoke Island. A nice gated community with pool, spa, tennis court, playground, restuarant and Marina on site. Rents are reasonable. Get a condo for couple or small family or they have huge homes for multi families to rent. On site managment team is great. Pirate's Cove is just at end of Nags Head and close to National Seashore where there are lots of uncrowded beach areas.Head down road to National Seashore area and just pull off main road anywhere you see parking area - walk over dunes to ocean.
Late spring and Fall are also a great time to visit - summer crowds are gone!

Looking for a honeymoon spot...something quiet, but also with relatively easy access to nightlife/shops, etc. We are in our 40's, so not looking for crazy bars or anything, just nice social atmosphere AND some peace & quiet!

My husband and I recently loved to nc. We are 26 and are celebrating our one year anniversary this year and are thinking of going to the outer banks but don't know where we should go. We would like to stay at a resort or house. On the nice beach with something to do in case we wanna go out to eat or have something to do. We will be staying for four days. Any recommendations?
