Subject: Help for OBX Newbie!
How do I decide where in OBX to stay? How do you all make up your minds whether to stay in Nags Head, Duck, Kitty Hawk, etc??

Thanks for any help.
Jason

We have always stayed at the following house. Lots to do within walking distance...pool, beach, shopping, go karts, canoes, fun for all ages!

Good Luck!

Depends mostly on what you like to do. The farther north you go the less night life there is (more family stuff). Families usually go from Duck to Corolla, people without kids go for the duck to nags head, pople with teenagers go for duck to nags head.

Im not familiar with the southern area (Nags head to Ocracroke).

If you list your desired activities Im sure someone will offer a recommendation.

#6954 you are really over simplifying to the point of being rediculous! Families usually go to Duck or Corolla, what a load of BS. Rediculous statement. Families go everywhere from Hatteras to Corolla. Those that don't like huge traffic jams and 2 lane jammed roads go to Kitty Hawk to South Nags Head as do families because there is much more to do and it isn't all night life unless you call putt-putt, resturants, shops and piers things for nightlife.

We stay in Rodanthe. The areas of Rodanthe Waves Salvo & Avon are to me, a good place to really unwind & refresh. I don't really want to vacation into an area that has the same congestion & traffic that I have to put up with all year

The areas of Rodanthe Waves Salvo is a good starting place close enough to go in either direction to explore where you want to be in the future. It really depends on what you want to do besides the beach . Also it’s what you can find that agrees with you pocket book

We stay at a rental in Kitty Hawk and have stayed in Kill Devil Hills. We like those areas because they are in the middle basically from Duck/Corrella to Ocracoke and we like to go to both. If you are at the top of Outer Banks or bottom a lot more driving. Also one of our favorite places is the National Seashore, great shelling and hardly anyone else there. So we go there a lot instead of our beach in front of our house.

Probably your best answer would be.....You just have to experience it for yourself and see what suits you. A good starting point would be the beaches in the center so you can visit north (Duck area) and south (Hatteras area) to see what you would like.

If you want a quiet, laid-back vacation, stay on Ocracoke. Wonderful place! Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, and Kitty Hawk are more commercial and touristy (and very crowded in the summer), but the beaches are great and there's an abundance of good places to eat. Sometimes when we go to the OBX, we stay on Ocracoke and might take a day trip to Hatteras. Other times we stay in either NH, KDH, or KH, and take a day trip to Ocracoke. Every area of the OBX is awesome!

I have never been to the OBX. I'm traveling with my girlfriend and we are looking for a cool/scenic place to camp (preferably with no RVs)that is close to a nice beach/ jockey's ridge. We're in our mid 20's so an area with some nightlife would also be nice...but not required. Also, if anyone has any recomendations for "Must sees" for a newbie to OBX please pass them along!

thanks!
