Subject: Crowded or quiet beaches - end of June?
Going down end of June. Never been to OBX before... is it quiet in June or not? Staying in Kill Devil Hills, presumably a high tourist location, but looking for a place to hang at the beach in quiet. Without a beach house, are there any good remote areas to lounge on the sand, without children roaming around?
We'll have a car, so we can drive all we want. Any suggestions? This is our first vacation in two years, we need relaxation and peace! LOL are we picking the wrong place?

You will not have a problem in KDH on the beaches for the most part. I would try to avoid beaching in front of a large hotel or near the many lifegard stations since families often beach there with the kids, but you will be able to find a nice quiet spot of your own. Normally the groups of people are 25-50 yards from each other, but if you want less crowded than that you might want to go south of Oregon Inlet to the Salvo area where you can drive on to the beaches. Just north of Oregon Inlet is Coquino beach and that might be worth a look too.

Beaches in KDH, KH, Nags Head, Duck etc. will be very busy at the end of June. Those beaches are sort of narrow so you would have lots of company. If you want beautiful uncrowded beaches, I suggest you go to Ocracoke Island. www.drbeach.org has ranked Ocracoke as #3 on the America's best beaches list in 2003 and again in 2004. Start looking for reservations now because I doubt you'd want to make the 4 hour or so round trip from KDH to Ocracoke on a daily basis.
