Does anyone know what the rebuilding schedule is? What amenities it will have, etc?

We've been waiting for this for a long time. I guess you know that the North Carolina Aquarium is the owner and in charge of the project. It will be 1000' long which will make it one of, if not, the biggest in NC. The main construction is concrete pilings and girders but a wood deck. It will have a two story Pier House and contain a Tackle Shop, Saltwater Exhibit Tanks and Classroom. It will have Wind Turbines for power. The best thing is that quite a bit of funding comes from special funds. There was originally supposed to be a public bath house on site. Opening is schedule for the Spring of 2011

Where will this pier be located exactly?

Exactly on the site of the old Jennette's Pier. The Pier is just North of the big Whalebone Junction intersection in Nags Head. Whalebone Junction is where the Beach Road and the By Pass come together along with Route 64 to Manteo and the start of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore property and Route 12 South. It is across the street from the famous Sam and Omies Restaurant.

We stayed right down the road from this location this year. There were cranes and men working. We were afraid they were building another hotel. We will look forward to visiting here when it's finished. We are hoping to stay in that area again next year. Thanks for the info.

Just came back from staying at the Comfort Inn near the pier. The construction noise is a bit loud during the day, but they seem to stop at a reasonable time. Looking forward to the finished pier.

A new entry into the American lexicon: Nagative. Used in a sentence: The constant complaining and harrassing had nagative effect on him.
