Subject: CROCODILE
Okay, I was in Nags Head on Mother's Day weekend, in Corrolla Light. My husband and I decided to head out to the beach that Saturday night to take a nice strole.. Out of the blue we saw this large image coming right out of the water. It honestly appeared to be a croc or an aligator. Please someone tell me that these things can not live in salt water? Has anyone else seen anything like this? If so please tell us your story. First, can this be possible , second is it even scientifically posible?

Okay it is time for the moderator to delete this absurd question. I know things are slow but this question is only going to generate answers as ridiculous as the question.

How about a turtle folks? At night, If you are not used to seeing them, they look kind of strange coming out of the water.

Of course crocodiles can live in salt water. Anyone google Saltwater Crocs? Problem is, they arent native to North America. And what did this animal do after it came out of the water? Did it go back in? Walk the beach? If it was some kind of gator or croc, they have nests on land..they arent in the water 24/7.

Maybe someone in a wet suit crawling out of the ocean? One can hope. Crocs are saltwater only and have never ever been known to be seen this far North. Even Fl is a far reach for them. Don't doubt you saw something, just can't be sure what it was.

It was a lobstrosity. Roland of Gilead lost some fingers to them. One or two toes, also.

It's hard trying to be serious on this one. However I always like to answer each post with good, usable, local information. Seriously, just using the posters information I can only come up with a sea turtle. Leatherback, which would be rare, would be my choice because they are bigger than Loggerheads. A Leatherback has a smoother, longer shell than a Loggerhead and can be much larger. Leatherbacks generally lay their eggs much further South than the Outer Banks. As somebody said previously there are Alligators and Snapper Turtles in Dare County, but in the creeks, swamps of the Dare Mainland. Lastly, other than a Turtle, trying to provide some credibility to this post is hard. How about a Horseshoe Crab? Alligator/Crocodile, no, I don't think so.

My guess it was ballon boy. Dad tried again and this time the kid WAS in the ballon.! I think the ballon attached to the jet ( the one where the pilots were asleep) then it fell off over the ocean..

The posters question may seem like a dumb question but those of us not native to the South, aren't familiar with what is in fact native to the OBX. After all, it is N.C. I've seen several gators in S.C. so why not ask if perhaps they might migrate to N.C.? 3 yrs ago, I saw a bobcat under the parking garage in the Scarboro Faire shopping complex in Duck. I Googled it, asked about it on this very board and was told they are not native there and I was wrong. But I'm not stupid. I know what I saw. It wasn't a "mudpuppy rat" or a domestic kitty, it was a bobcat, plain & simple. I dont know how it got to the OBX nor do I car, but I saw what i saw and you can all tell me it was something different, but it wasnt. We live in Ohio. Gators cant survive in our cooler climate, but within the past several yrs, 2 were captured from our rivers. Yes, RIVERS. As well as pirhanas. Apparently from ppl who discard them as pets. So please, just answer honestly and dont treat a person like an a** because they ask a serious question.
